Description

CX403 Speedplay Cycling Shoe

Lake’s top-tier road shoe gets an update in the new CX403. Featuring the same custom fit carbon fiber sole and supple kangaroo leather upper as its predecessor, the CX403’s closure system is redesigned and the added rubber toe bumper helps extend the shoe’s longevity. The folks at Lake recognize that when it comes to pedals, everyone has a favorite, which is why the CX403 Shoes are offered in this Speedplay-specific sole.

Lake has worked long and hard on building the ultra-efficient Custom Fit carbon fiber sole. You may have had carbon-soled shoes in the past that didn’t quite fit, and if that’s the case, you recognize that ultimate power transfer is meaningless if your feet are in agony. But you can say goodbye to the era of compromise, as these are heat-moldable, ensuring the perfect fit and incredible heel hold. The Speedplay-specific sole eliminates the need for an adapter base plate between shoe and cleat, lowering the stack height to improve power transfer. With less material between you and the pedal, power transfer is made more efficient.

The redesigned dual BOA closures only enhance the fit. Compared to the CX402, the CX403’s instep strap is twice as wide to better disperse pressure from the upper BOA dial. By employing two Boa dials, Lake enables you to keep your heel locked down, without requiring undue pressure on the forefoot. And as you already know, that means better blood flow, and greater comfort.

The BOA closures weave between the sleek kangaroo leather upper, which promises fantastic service life. Better yet, since kangaroo leather is among the thinnest, most durable types of leather around, they’re incredibly supple and only get better with time. The perforations work in conjunction with mesh panels to maximize airflow, so your feet stay cool, instead of getting clammy. Carbon fiber panels along the instep help keep the foot stabilized and increase the efficiency of power transfer as well as resist the shoe stretching out too much and changing shape.

  • Unrivaled cycling shoes for the discerning racer
  • Stiff carbon sole can be heat-molded to your foot
  • Speedplay-specific sole eliminates need for adapters
  • Kangaroo leather is supple and forms to foot
  • Dual Boa closures dial fit without undue weight gain or bulk

Stiff Shoe!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

True to size

I have only used them two times (one was a 50+ mile ride with 4000+ ft of climb) but the initial feel was a very stiff and comfortable shoe! It is also easy to get on & off, which some shoes, I need a shoe horn! I liked my current shoes (Mavic's) as the heal felt solid but the Lakes are great on the heal and very solid out of the saddle. I also run Speedplay cleats which work very well on this Speedplay specific shoe.......like less stack! I didn't adjust my seat and my knees feel fine, I must have had my saddle a little low. Sizing is great, I am abiut a 13.5 and got a 14 which works well. They are a little difficult to walk in but I think I'll get used to that. Heartily recommend!

Hi Gregory G. Did you use the Speedplay Walkable Cleat Protector Shim Kit with your setup? If you did, where did you find them? Cheers, Marc B.
