Description

Valegro Helmet

We grabbed our first glimpse of the Kask Valegro Helmet on the heads of Team Sky riders at the 2017 Tour as they donned them on the hottest mountain stages where aerodynamics takes a back seat to light weight and ventilation. Since that time, we've been patiently waiting for Kask to bring the helmet to the market for us mere mortals. The team that's known for its obsession with marginal gains once again makes—ahem—headway in helping design a product that in the end, we all benefit from.

Kask engineers carefully shaped the profile of the Valegro's polycarbonate shell and verified the results in the wind tunnel, creating exceptional cooling performance and heat exchange, the perfect recipe for a helmet to keep your head cool on climbs in July. The Valegro offers its impressive cooling through 37 vents and the new breathable and quick-dry pads. This 5mm thick 3D DRY padding is anti-static and antibacterial and has a multi-layer open cell construction process so it wicks away sweat while remaining extremely comfortable. And because your perspiration evaporates quickly, less humidity is formed so the temperature remains more constant.

Kask and Team Sky both realize that a well-ventilated helmet doesn't amount to much if it isn't safe so it uses in-molding technology to join the inner polystyrene cap to the outer polycarbonate which ensures better shock absorption. This helmet, like all Kask helmets, features MIT Technology, that Kask touts as being safer and offering more protection due to the fact that the polycarbonate layer covers the top of the helmet as well as the base ring. Keeping the helmet in place during the ride and an unfortunate event of a crash is its much-lauded Octo Fit system. A rubberized dial adjuster provides easy two-finger adjustment of the floating cradle's contact points for comfort and they oscillate freely through a 180-degree range allowing for a perfect fit on a variety of head shapes. Another returning favorite is the eco-leather chinstrap that’s way more comfortable than a salt-encrusted nylon webbing strap sanding away at your jaw and chin.

The Valegro manages all this amazing ventilation and safety at the impressively low weight of just 180g in a size small. It's no wonder why the pros on Team Sky choose this helmet on some of the hardest stages and it’s the one we'll be rocking on our own heroic rides.

  • Team Sky's go-to helmet on hot stages featuring climbs
  • In-Mold shell increases structural integrity
  • Verified in the wind tunnel for cooling and heat exchange
  • Adjustable Octo Fit cradle keeps a snug hold on your skull
  • 37 ventilation channels encourage air flow and keep you dry
  • Anti-odor padding offers all-day comfort while wicking away sweat

I received this helmet via UPS and that I am glad I did not have to visit a store to do my shopping. After looking at the helmet I noticed it was awesome and that inside the helmet I was surprised to see the mechanical ingenuity that it adjust different ways not just around the circumference but back and forth. It has a back wrap around adjustment that clicks tight enough to fit perfect. That's particularly what I liked that it adjusts for the perfect fit. The bad thing about it is one of the pads fell off after the first time wearing it. None the less a dab of aqua seal made the repair. I really liked the helmet and it was priced just enough for me to afford.

    Super uncomfortable

I would not buy this helmet again. Sunglasses don’t fit comfortably and all in all not a comfortable helmet.

    Lightweight Helmet

    Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
    Fit:
    True to size

The Kask Valegro is a super light helmet. The Octo Fit retention system keeps the helmet nice and secure on your head. I use this helmet with some Oakley Jawbreakers and have issues keeping the Jawbreakers arms held in the helmet vents. Side profile of the helmet is pretty good, it doesn't stick out too much. Fits pretty well for a large head, my hat size is 7 5/8.

Out of the box, this helmet is light. Substantially lighter than my previous Bell Zephyr. I've already used it on a couple 85 degree + rides, and air flow is excellent. The helmet has a nice aero profile, with a trim back end. But the real aero benefit is not obvious until you actually ride with the helmet. Their is very little material (not even padding) at the front center (ie. between your eyebrows, center of forehead). This allows a better flat back position, as the brim of the helmet doesn't interfere with vision. The front corners of the helmet are built up for protection, so you're covered in the event of a crash. The lack of padding above the eyebrow also serves another feature: no sweat dripping into your eyes. The fit adjustment works fine. As for fit, the helmet is typical kask: rounder fit. I have a more oval shaped head, 59cm. I went with a large, and there is a bit of room on the sides. However, the fit is secure. The valegro also has a smaller profile than the kask protone. I would highly recommend the Valegro.
