De Marchi was so satisfied with its top-end Veloce bib shorts that for 2016, it found ways to apply the same fit concepts to the rest of its line. The classic, minimal Leggero Women's Bib Short now features similar panels of stretchy, breathable fabric arranged specifically to support the muscles that work the hardest in the saddle — hamstrings, quads, glutes, and hip flexors. Though De Marchi made similar changes to its Classico Short this year, it uses a lighter, airier fabric to craft the Leggero, suiting the latter well to unavoidably hot summer rides when breathability and moisture transfer are key factors.
In addition to restructuring the leg panels of the Leggero, Marchi also cuts it with a high, supportive waist that transitions seamlessly to the mesh bibs with stretchy microfiber panels. Meant to be stabilizing but not restrictive, the mesh panels help facilitate faster moisture transfer away from your skin while following your body movements in the saddle. The bib straps themselves are crafted with light, airy fabric meant to disappear under a jersey, with elegant white piping setting it apart as classier and cleaner than its basic black counterparts.
To further address comfort, De Marchi trusts the experts in chamois design over at Elastic Interface Technology. The Leggero is lined with the EIT's women's-specific N-Dura Air insert. While De Marchi specifically states that the chamois provides up to six hours of comfort, we'd say the Leggero itself is a short you can trust to remain plush and supportive for the duration of your ride without getting too hung up on numbers. The N-Dura Air's arrangement of multi-density foam topped by a soft, odor-resistant microfiber helps the chamois integrate smoothly with the rest of the Leggero, creating little opportunity for chafing and the reassurance that you can sit, stand, and stretch out in the saddle comfortably throughout your ride.
