The 1972 summer games might not be Huelamo's fondest memory — he was stripped of his bronze medal for doping — but you can honor the Spanish rider's gutsy coramine-fueled ride with De Marchi's 1972 Spanish Men's Cycling Jersey.
Wool was the jersey fabric of choice for years, but it was eventually pushed out in favor of cheaper synthetics. De Marchi isn't interested in cheap, and so it made the Spanish Jersey from a historically-inspired blend of merino wool and acryclic fibers to take advantage of wool's inherent moisture-wicking, breathable, and temperature-regulating properties. Merino is also naturally antimicrobial, so the jersey will smell fresh when you stop for an espresso or a glass of Rioja after a long day of riding.
Subtle touches add to this retro kit's appeal. The three rear pockets feature mother of pearl buttons (a detail that Huelamo's kit probably didn't have) and the round neck has a short zipper for adjustable ventilation. At the sleeves, slightly stretchy knit cuffs prevent discomfort and riding up, and the red-and-gold patterning unmistakably evokes la Rojigualda.
