How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

Good fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 26

I bought these shorts in both a 24 and 26 because I was not sure what size would work best. The 26 fit perfect and still left adequate room for a liner underneath. I like that the material had a slight texture to it and the length hit just at my knee for good coverage.

Sizing is bonkers

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 30

Size up from the chart, or steer clear of these bad boys. The 30 fit my waist okay, but left little room for a chamois. The deal breaker was that my burly lady quads were too much for the legs. (For the record, I have 39" hips, 29" waist, and 25.5" quads at the biggest circumference.) My range of motion was very restricted, so back they went.

Yes! I wish they would measure quad diameter... I have the same issue! What has worked for hefty thighs? I'm still looking

Nice shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 28

Nice shorts, fit great over padded shorts and are flattering. Was worried they were a bit too long but the length is nice. I like that they're lightweight but have had them for about 2 months and they're already looking pretty bad from snagging. I just wash them like normal clothes so am a bit surprised.

Comfortable go-to riding shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Comfortable, true to size, and a really nice length. The Poppy and Crown Blue colors are really nice in person. They have decent pocket space, and are great for riding anything from XC trails to Enduro.

Dakine Siren Shorts - Women's

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These shorts are true to size and super comfortable. Can't beat the price from backcountry. I recommend the Siren and the Tonic, which I am also very happy with.

Sizing is off

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 28

My friend bought a 26 in these and they were way too tight. They unbutton on her while she's riding. I bought the 28 since we are the same size and they are obnoxiously huge. Even with the velcro tabs these are 90's grunge phase big on me. I wear them from time to time, but for the most part they're collecting dust.

Weird fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 30

Let's start with dimensions: I'm 5'9", have a 30" natural waist, 35" mid waist where the short's waistband hits, and 25.5" thighs at the widest part. I went with the size 30, despite reviews that would have led me to drop down a size. The waist fits fine, if not a little snug. But the thighs are quite snug, and I can feel my range of motion restricted when I lift my leg. There would definitely not be room for bike shorts under these bad boys, so back to the warehouse they go!

Should've listened to the reviews...

I'm just getting into cycling, and I really liked the look of these and the fact that they're meant to fit over bike shorts/liners. I don't know if the sizing from the manufacturer is just horribly inconsistent or what, but like some others have noted, these are HUGE. I'm 5'4" and about 125 lbs with a booty, and I could pull the size 28 shorts off and on without undoing the snap or zipper! Even pulling the velcro tabs all the way in didn't help much, and then it bunched at the back waistband like a diaper... not exactly the look I was going for. :/ The legs were also much wider than I expected, and I don't have skinny thighs. Back they go!

Dakine Siren

These don't actually run large... they are just made to fit a liner or chamois underneath. I typically don't wear one, but mine fit (and look great) with or without one. Probably worth mentioning, I wear these pretty low on my hips. Most of my other mtb shorts fit higher up.

Perfect summer shorts, as they have lots of room and are made of a light fabric. The blue is gorgeous, but shows all the dirt and will never come clean. But I guess if you're super worried about getting dirty, you should probably find a new hobby anyway ;-)

Thanks for the awesome review Tegan! Glad to hear you have been getting after that Utah Brown Pow, and adding some texture to the shorts :)

Like these shorts a lot, but the sizing is super funky! I'm 5'7'' 140lbs athletic build and the 26" were way too small but the 28" fit perfect. I prefer my MTB shorts a little baggier. The 28 felt like it was two sizes bigger than the 26. Wish they had a zippered pocket.

I own about 8 pair of these

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have these shorts in every color, and I have a couple doubles. They are pretty much the only mtb shorts I wear. I love them because they hit me right above the knee, they are lightweight, the waste is adjustable, and they dry super-duper quickly. They don't come with liners, but I have plenty of those. I always get compliments on the blue ceramic color, but I suggest not wearing that color on a muddy day.

I am 5'5", 122 lbs and wear the 26. I can wear this same size give or take 7 lbs. The sizing is odd...I am definitely not a 26 waist. It took me a few purchases to figure out my size. Note that these fit slightly different than the Dakine Tonic shorts, but I can still wear roughly the same size or smaller in those.

Not so stretchy.

So, the copy says these are a "four-way stretch knit" but the shorts feel more like a woven, the fabric is thin and light weight, but does not give. I purchased a 28 (my old pair is a 28) and they were just a bit too constricting for peddling so I returned them. They are a nice length for fitting over knee pads.

My fav MTB shorts!

I have two pairs of these shorts and love them for riding. The adjustable velcro waistband inside is great if they are a little big. Lightweight and super comfortable. If they come out with more colors, I will buy them all!

Best mountain bike shorts ever

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 28

These are hands down the best mountain bike over shorts ever. I feel that this seasons are true to size. Last season a little big....
ANYWAY, for reference, i am 5'4'. 122 pounds, 50 years old, and i bought the 28. They have a ton of velcro length on both sides, so it is easy to make them fit perfect, stay up, and still remain cool and loose around butt and thighs. I love that these are finally a brand and style with room for an athletes butt! These are amazing and i love them. Oh, and the pockets are deep and wonderful. Phone can be in there and i can ride for hours without a bother.

Shorts are much bigger than expected.

Too big, too baggy. Seemed to be men's shorts.

Too baggy

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Shorts are way too baggy and sizing runs large. Not quite what I was looking for.

Good shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I'm 5'2", 110lbs, and bought the 28. I sized up so I could fit my armoured Demon shorts underneath. I find women's shorts to always be too fitted when putting my armour on. These are on the baggier side, which is what I was looking for. They do fit quite large though. They look terrible without my armour, major saggy ass, but when I have armour on they look okay. I wish these had a zippered pocket as well as belt loops as there is nowhere to hang a lift ticket.

I bought these in grape, and they're almost like a neon purple, so you're definitely going to be seen wearing them. All in all, they're pretty good, but I think they're missing some key features.

Sweet shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I really like the length of these shorts. The only problem is that I the room in the thighs are tight (notice the "runs small" ranking), so if you have muscular legs, you may want to size up. That means the waist will be a bit big, but there is an adjustable waist. I really like how lightweight and breathable these are. I had the older version of these and ripped some holes in them. The button for the fly has been improved (the older version wouldn't stay closed after wearing them a ton). Love the purple!!

These are amazing!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I love the fit of these shorts! I had to get the smallest size offered, the 28. I am 5'4'', 128 lbs. They're a good length, and not very baggy at all, so you can still look girlish out there when riding with the boys. They're thin too which is awesome for the hot summer/warm fall days! I highly recommend these shorts, I've found nothing wrong with them!

too big!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

The smallest size, 26 I think is more like a 30. I wear 27/28 and I can't keep them on even with the adjustable velcro around the waist band.

If you can get a pair that fit, they are cute. I got the magenta/purple. I like the color. The material is thin though, so it won't be a good bomber DH pair of shorts.

Good luck!
