Square tapered bottom brackets were the norm when Chris King first bounced around the notion of entering the bottom bracket market. In fact, King collaborated on the Isis Drive standard, but held out on production. That's because King knew that turbulence existed, as multiple other standards were on the horizon. Once the dust settled, however, Chris King confidently entered the market in the fashion that it's renowned for -- as is found in the PressFit 30mm Bottom Bracket.
Compatible with PF30 equipped frames, the PressFit 30mm cups house 24 King-manufactured stainless steel balls in each cartridge. If you're unaware of the significance of this, King's precision ball bearings are held to a much higher standard than the industry norm. This level of thoroughness established the reputation for reliability of King's hubs and headsets, and now, its bottom brackets.
To ensure that reliability, the bearings are user-serviceable with King's Grease Injection Tool (available separately). Simply add fresh grease with the tool to purge gunky, used grease, and to keep things spinning smoothly. This system also has a fringe benefit for racers -- it provides the option to run thin grease, or even oil, on race day in order to minimize bearing drag. And, when you're not racing, it's a snap to inject thicker grease in order to maximize durability.
The Chris King PressFit 30mm Bottom Bracket is compatible with both 68 and 73mm PF30 frames, and it will work directly with BB30 of PF30 cranks. A conversion kit is available for 24mm road, 24mm mountain, or 24/22mm mountain cranksets. It is available in the colors Black and Red.
