Competizione Bib Short
With the Competizione Bib Shorts, pro-level Castelli quality need not come at a pro-level price tag. Castelli drew on their premium bib shorts to design a bib perfect for training and riding, whether we fancy ourselves racers or riders. The Competizione features much of the same technology as their higher-end offerings, like a KISS Air2 insert and Giro4 leg grippers, making it comfortable for long and short rides alike.
The main panels use Castelli’s Vortex fabric for optimal breathability and comfort, while the bibs are a more open mesh to ventilate well beneath a jersey. Castelli uses a tighter Lycra for better compression, stretch, and rebound, where there’s more movement when pedaling. The KISS Air2 insert’s perforated padding and seamless upper keeps cool air moving through the short to ensure your comfort on the bike.
- A bib with pro-level comfort at self-sponsored pricepoint
- KISS Air2 chamois provides comfort for long and short rides
- Affinity Pro Lycra offers stretch and rebound needed for optimal comfort
- Mesh bib upper breathes well and supports

Initial impression is good

I ordered an XL first, but it felt a little too snug. I ordered the XXL and it fits nicely. BTW, I'm usually a L with Pearl Izumi and Voler (and all other clothing). It's just this Italian sizing is unbelievable too small. At any rate, BackCountry is just awesome though. They never disappoint.

almost the nicest bibs i have right now. have some of the higher level bibs from a couple years ago that Castelli made that are lighter and better suited for the hottest of days. these bibs are great though. fit is perfect and they don't move around at all or bunch up under me. i will say these are probably the best bibs i've bought for the price. as usual, size runs super small. i can wear a large in PI bibs, but i always buy the xxxl in castelli. oh well. worth it.

Used these about a month and they are holding up well. I bought a second pair just in case they go out of inventory. Nice leg grippers that hold the legs down. I like long shorts and these come down to just about the top of my knee but I do have short legs (30-31). They dry quickly and the weather here in SC has been hot and humid. Like the chamois fits well and hasn't chaffed yet. The material is light which is also great for my climate. I am only riding about 100 miles a week anymore so if you are putting in a lot of miles you may not get the same results. I washed these several times and there doesn't seem to be any unravelling. I might have to change this review if things change but these are a good product at a good price. These do run small I have worn Med in the past with other shorts and sized up to a Large in these.

Just trying out bib shorts as I get back into riding. I have some Castelli long bibs for cooler weather and thought they represented good fit, value and performance. The short bibs no different....just a tad on the small sizing spectrum so suggest ordering up.

These are very well made and fit snug. Like the other reviewers have mentioned, if you don't like a snug fit, then get one size larger than you typically would. The bibs are comfortable both on the road and on the trainer - even the longer zwift rides. The quality is exactly what I would expect from Castelli - I have another pair of Castelli's that I've used for years and I imagine these will last just as long.

I'm 6ft 165lbs and got a L. Definitely happy I sized up, its still even pretty tight. My measurements were exactly a Medium, and the Large is a tight race fit on me. SIZE UP! Great quality as always from Castelli

Well made and comfortable. I own several Castelli items and all are high quality. These fit snug but that's how I like my bib shorts and my bib tights to feel. I like having some compression on my thighs. Pad is very comfortable. Road 40 miles first ride out with no issues. Sizing is typical Castelli. Learn to look at the inch or cm sizing and stop worrying about how many "X''s are in front of the "L".

6'2" 170 lbs. - I got XLs, perfect - order one size up, they run small. I like longer length bibs, these fit the bill. I put 700 miles on my pair so far, no issues at this point. I machine wash and hang dry. i ride an average of 1.5 hrs. per session, very comfortable for these rides. I highly recommend - these bibs rock.

I have been using more Castelli bib shorts and tights for years (Free Aero, Endurance 2, Nanoflex). I decided to try the Comptizione a month ago when they were on sale at the same time I wanted a new pair of inexpensive bibs for indoor training. I was impressed from the first session and now I have about 400 miles on this pair both on the road (up to 60-mile rides at this point) and on the trainer. The fit is perfect for me, they are light and cool but sufficiently compressive, the pad is just the right size and thickness, there is no bunching of the pad or fabric, they breathe well, and they appear to be durable (so far). Although I like the feel of the higher-end Progetto X2 on other models, the size/shape of the KISS Air work better for me. They were an amazing deal on sale at $97.46, but also a great buy at their regular price.

Reading the reviews on Castelli products first worried me. The sizing horror stories became my only concern and when first ordering from the brand years ago I ordered a medium and large in everything. I can honestly say, if you just FOLLOW THE SIZING CHART the product will work for you. And of course, don’t make your main measurement your chest when ordering bibSHORTS. I usually go off my waist or hips as that’s what matters most with this garment. And be honest with your tape measure. I see too many reviews on here of people that are 6 foot tall, and 180lb that order a small and expect it to fit...no. So long as you’re not oddly proportioned that is. Years ago, I ultimately decided mediums fit me better as I like a tighter fit (so that nothing rubs on 4-5 hour rides or races). Medium bibs have fit me throughout the Castelli range and these are no different. They are a compression garment designed to be like a second skin so there is no possibility of chafing. Keep that in mind. I am 5’10-11 and weigh 162lb, making me on the leaner side. The medium gives me a perfect race fit, not too tight but compressive enough that they don’t rub and the chamois stays in place. A large could work if you enjoy a little more freedom...but then again, that’s not what these bibshorts are designed for.

I try not to write negative reviews overall, but I would say that these bibs, although nice fitting and comfortable, are not durable enough. I've worn them for both indoor and outdoor training rides and after two gentle hand washes in cold water(I never put my cycling gear in the washing machine and always hang dry), the bibs have already started to pill on the outside thigh seam. I'm disappointed because at $140, they are hardly cheap. For the same price, I've had both Assos and Rapha bib shorts during outlet sales that have not fallen apart this quickly. Now, for the good, the pad is just compressive enough and super comfortable on a 2 hour ride so far. It doesn't get soggy and breathes well. The panels are nicely constructed and just compressive enough without being uncomfortable . Have not ridden them in hot weather yet and I love Castelli's race cut, so I was a little sad about the construction, Maybe it was a bad batch, who knows, but now I will to think twice about spending $200 on their Free Aero race short.

Great Performance, Great Price

I picked these up a few weeks ago in anticipation of the riding season and so far i'm pretty impressed! The KISS Air2 is breathable, and supportive without being too thick. The material gives a good amount of compression so be aware of that when deciding on size. I went with an XL but XXL might have worked as well. I have yet to use them on a blistering hot summer day, but so far on the trainer and on rides I have found them to be plenty breathable. My only gripe is that the bib straps tend to bunch and twist easily, but they stay in place once you get a tight jersey on over the top. Plan on sizing up a full size possibly two for Castelli as with most Italian brands.
