About twelve miles east of Salt Lake City, overlooking the area's famed ski resorts, is a climb called Guardsman Pass. It links Salt Lake City to Park City by going up and over the top of Utah's Wasatch Mountains, and you might recognize its name from a certain race that brings the peloton to Utah in August. Winters are pretty extreme up there, and while the Capo Guardsman Bib Tights aren't quite warm enough to survive a blizzard at Guardsman's summit, they do offer enough protection for almost any other road conditions you'll encounter.
The Guardsman Tights are built with Roubaix fabric, which has a soft, brushed lining to create a microclimate of trapped air between you and the elements while also wicking moisture away from your skin. The knees, which tend to lead your legs into whatever weather that winter has cooked up, are given an additional layer of Topazio fabric, which is windproof, waterproof, and adds a considerable element of insulation.
Unlike many other winter-weight tights that are cut to accommodate your body in the saddle, the Guardsman Bib Tights don't feel overly restrictive when you're running around your house trying to find your other glove before the ride or standing in line for a mid-ride coffee. The tights also use Capo's overlock stitching for an abrasion-free fit all around, and the seams are designed to avoid sensitive areas.
The D4 Multi Density EIT chamois rounds the Guardsman Tights off, providing targeted support to keep your body weight on the spots you want it for up to five hours of base-mile comfort. The short zipper at the front of the bibs helps get them on and off and also facilitates bio breaks without the need to compromise your microclimate by removing your jacket, base layer, and bibs.
