Though it seems obvious now, the idea of use-specific tires for front and rear wheels has only recently come into vogue among large manufacturers. Mavic, with its penchant for tech and innovation, was an early adapter and continues to lead the charge with the Yksion Pro GripLink Clincher Tire, which is designed specifically to meet the demands placed on a front tire. Its rear mate is the Yksion Pro PowerLink Clincher.
Since the load placed on a front tire is lower than that placed on the rear, Mavic is able to give the GripLink tackier shoulders without worrying about the corresponding loss of durability that softer, better-gripping compounds entail. The GripLink also has tread pattern designed to channel water and maintain solid contact with the road, even in wet conditions. This results in a tire that leads confidently into corners whether it's sunny and dry or grey and a bit on the damp side.
Given our description of the shoulder, we're compelled to stress that this isn't a one-and-done tire that will fall apart the minute you even see a pothole. The GripLink's 127 TPI casing and harder center strip boost the tire's longevity and rolling efficiency. There's also a Kevlar anti-puncture strip under the tread, which really speaks for itself.
The Mavic Yksion Pro GripLink Clincher Tire is designed for use on front wheels and is available in two sizes, 700c x 23mm and 700c x 25mm.
