Mr. Popular.

The Ether is Zoic’s most popular mountain bike short. The Ether features plenty of storage space and plenty of ventilation, which is quite common in shorts that cost twice as much from other manufacturers. The new Ether is made with an upgraded DuraFlex stretch fabric that moves with your body and stands up to pro-DH amounts of abuse.

The whole body of the Ether is made with DuraFlex stretch material that won't bind or limit your range of motion, and Zoic taped the seams to create a smooth surface that won't cause chafing. The fabric also pulls moisture away from your skin to keep you dry and comfortable. The Fusion Gusset inseam further increases the short's range of motion and eliminates seat hang-ups, while vents below the waistband in the back and down the legs promote airflow so you can stay cool on hot days of riding. The Ether also comes with plenty of pockets — two front, two thigh, and one back — so you have plenty of room for your essentials. There's even a dedicated media pocket for your phone or music player with a headphone cord control grommet and loop to avoid snags.

As far as fit is concerned, the Ether's cuffs fall right at the knee. The leg holes are loose enough that they don't interfere with knee pads. Zoic also included waist adjustments so you can fine-tune the fit. The flat front waistband is secured with a standard zip-and-snap closure.

  • Quintessential all-mountain shorts
  • DuraFlex fabric promotes fluid range of motion
  • Falls just-below-knee for optimum coverage and roominess
  • Bright color pops and subdued palettes suit any style
  • Zoic creates obsessively refined riding apparel

One of my favorites

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

They breath well and have pockets. What more could you ask for? They have held up alright but are showing a little wear, but I would get them again. I wear them biking and trail running. Be careful with the zippers and you won't have a problem.

One of my favorites

Zippers blowout

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Like reviewers John B and Greg L - I too had the zippers blow out of both pairs that I bough. I warrantied them through Zoic and the replacement shorts that they sent me did the same.

good, not great

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First ride in them today. Wore Patagonia liner shorts under them. I'm a 32 waist, so ordered a medium per the size chart. I should've gotten a small, as I had to tighten the velcro waist tabs almost all the way, and they are a little longer and baggier than I would prefer. The crotch zipper got off track the first time I zipped them up, but I lowered it and pulled it back up and it worked fine after that. Had no issues riding in them, and the crotch never got hung on my seat. The side pocket is huge, which is fine, but when I put my phone in it while riding my phone slid around to the back of my thigh. I wish the pocket would keep my phone more on the top or side of my thigh. Good shorts overall, but enough small things to get a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 for me.

Great mtb shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Xlarge

These are great mtb shorts. Lightweight very strong material, with lots of zippered pockets for phones, keys, etc. I wear these shorts shredding my favorite trails and for hiking the canyons too. Very cool for the desert here in Arizona.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XXL

Light weight with plenty of storage.

Great short!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love how many pockets are on these things they are super easy to store things, they are lightweight yet durable. And come in a great couple of colors. And they fit well too!

Great Reliable Short

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had a pair of these for a very long time, and recently purchased two more. The original pair from REI had the liner, but I am honestly happier purchasing it without - I am picky about liners.

The fit is great. The length hits at the knee. The pockets at the waist are not much use while riding, but there are plenty of lower leg pockets. I personally like the sideways orientation of a few of the pockets as they are more convenient to reach while riding.

Overall very happy with these. Glad to see the quality hasn't changed over time.

Great Fitting Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are my favorite mountain biking shorts on the market. I wear them over bibs and they fit great. They stretch much better then some higher priced shorts I've tried. Super comfortable for long days in the saddle and have plenty of pockets to easily fit keys, phone, wallet and so on. I also wear them with low profile knee pads which fit easily fit under the bottom of the shorts.

great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've bought this ones before but in blue. I totally love them, so I decided to get another pair but this time in black. The blue ones are just fine, the only issue is that it is a bit hard matching shirts, so that's why I went for the black ones.

I'm usually a 33 and this time I got M instead of the L I previously bought. I prefer how the M fits.

Solid shorts w/o liner

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I like to wear bib shorts and these work great over them. While not baggy, they have plenty of room and are very comfortable. The velcro adjustment tabs are great for dialing in the fit without needing a belt. They stay in place and do not stick to or get hung up on my seat. Plenty of pockets for keys, gels, cash, etc. These are my go to when I do not need knee coverage, can't beat them for the price.

I have a slender build and usually wear an XL in bib shorts, went with an L for these because I like a slimmer fit for my outer layers.

Solid Bike Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really enjoy these shorts. In fact I've purchased a few pairs in different colors. I love the fit and the fabric. They are breathable and have the right amount of stretch in them. The only complaint I have is that I've had the zipper bust on one pair. Other than that, they've been a super solid pair of mtn bike shorts.

Fabric not to my liking

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I am riding minimum 12 hours every week in very dry conditions in Southern Colorado for the last two years. I was looking for sturdy MTB shorts and received a pair resembling beach swim trunks. Material is light weight and so slippery it's not worth to even try to ride. Returning this item.

No Liner, Easy To Dial in Your Fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I loved the first pair I bought so much, I bought a second pair. I never buy MTB shorts with liners (I prefer to use my own bibs). These come without a liner, so I saved some change instead of paying for a pair with a liner and then tossing it. I also appreciate that the adjustable waistline tabs really lets you dial in your fit. This beats having to use a belt or relying on a crappy elastic waistband that ends up stretching out after awhile. Plenty of pockets that are actually big enough to fit things securely, including my cell phone. For the money, I really don't think there's a better buy.

Great gift for the biker in the family

  • Fit: True to size

Love the style of these shorts. Like having the liner and the shorts separate. Gave them as a gift for my Dad. He really liked them. Would recommend.

Love these shorts!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

These are my 2nd pair of these. Pockets are great, fit is great. Much more durable than some higher priced shorts I've tried. Only thing I'd say against them is to ditch the liner which is available on some versions.

GREAT for about a month

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I really liked these shorts when I first received them. Then after about a month one of the pocket zippers failed. They are super cheap zippers and have no place on bike shorts. Then about 2 weeks later the button fell apart. The fabric and general construction is nice at first but after a bit of use the cheap components begin to fail. Ill never buy anything from Zoic again. Definitely NOT recommended

I have had the same problems with these shorts. Zippers fail and fall off. Crotch easily splits out. I will never purchase from Zoic again either.

Zoic Ether

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I have two pairs of these shorts. One with a liner, one without. Love them. I am 5-11, 230 lbs. XL fits perfectly. The liner was not for me, too thin. The shorts have plenty of pockets. They breathe well, and stretch to move with you. As far as length, they just touch the top of my knee. The atomic color is pear green. Maybe a little darker than the picture.
