Go green while getting dirty.

The ZOIC Ether Shorts are a mash-up of high-tech features, fantastic comfort, and understated style, and as per all ZOIC offerings, it's made of recycled materials wherever possible.

The most important feature of the Ether short is its chamois liner. The chamois, called the Zo-Tech, is Zoic's highest-quality, multi-level, stretch chamois. It's even made with recycled polyester so it gives a little back. The chamois cushions impacts and reduces vibrations in the saddle. The liner is also fully removable, which makes the Ether extremely versatile. You can wear the shorts with the liner, then ditch the liner post-ride. You can even wear the liner with other shorts to transform them from casual shorts to riding shorts.

The Ether's list of features doesn't end with its removable chamois liner, though. The whole body of the Ether is made with a stretch material that won't bind or limit your range of motion, and Zoic taped the seams to create a smooth surface that won't cause chafing. The fabric also pulls moisture away from your skin to keep you dry and comfortable. The Fusion Gusset inseam further increases the short's range of motion and eliminates seat hang-ups, while vents below the waistband in the back and down the legs promote airflow so you can stay cool on hot days of riding. The Ether also comes with plenty of pockets — two front, two thigh, and one back — so you have plenty of room for your essentials. There's even a dedicated media pocket for your phone or music player with a headphone cord control grommet and loop to avoid snags.

As far as fit is concerned, the Ether's cuffs fall right at the knee. The leg holes are loose enough that they don't interfere with knee pads. Zoic also included waist adjustments so you can fine-tune the fit. The flat front waistband is secured with a standard zip-and-snap closure.

Not your cheap pair of shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Having always had cheap shorts these are a major upgrade. What a difference in wicking, breathability and comfort. Also the zippers seem to be flawless, which cheaper shorts always seem to have issues with. Nothing more frustrating than going pack less and worrying about loosing your key.

Get a color you can wear while not biking, you'll want to wear them more. I've used for kayaking, biking, and day trips and they have been holding up great. Over 50miles of single track miles on them, look like new.

5-10 160lb 32 jeans and I fit the medium. They have an adjustable waistband but they are snug all the way loose.
Length is just above my knee and the pad is the best fitting I have ever worn. Likely going to buy another pair next Backcountry sale.

Zoic is sending replacement shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Material is perfect for contact with saddle.
No belt loops is a major flaw. . Liner padding is excellent (feels weird until worn on bike)...much better than my old liner.

After four rides one of the front pockets already has a hole, Zoic is sending replacement. Outstanding customer service.

Highly recommend

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love the liner design. Very functional and comfortable. Also I really like the outer shell. Having pockets is a big plus.

Favorite bike + shorts.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these for biking. Lots of zip pockets for any junk I haul. Took them down to the Green River where we used the bikes for shuttle for a river run. took out the liner and used em as river shorts. Thumbs up.

Great Upgrade

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I originally thought that buying the cheapest mountain bike shorts would be adequate until I bought these. Material is much more breathable and comfortable, doesn't stick to seat yet not too slippery. great pockets, improvement in chamois, true to size, adjustable waist, washes well. Look no further.

Thank you for your review Dan! We really appreciate your feedback.

Decent, but could be better

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are nice pants and reasonably comfortable. Pockets are well thought out and secure. I especially like the front pockets. They are fairly deep and the top access is cut at a more horizontal angle, so stuff doesn’t fall out every time you sit down. I can put my cell phone in there and know that it’s not going to disappear during my ride.

I do have a few issues with these pants, however. First, I have the 12” inseam version and wish it was a little longer. I now see that they have come out with a 13” version. So, that issue seems to be resolved. Second, the snap closure on the front of the pants is way too puny. Even though it has a tiny piece of velcro to help reduce stress on the snap and keep it closed, it still comes undone at random times. This situation is exacerbated by my third issue with these pants - NO belt loops! Having a belt would likely reduce the stress on the front snap, so the pants wouldn’t pop open. I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair of pants, that relied solely on elastic for waste support, that actually fit properly and stayed in place. These are no exception. And, if you like to carry something on your belt, while you are hiking/riding (Leatherman tool or whatever), the elastic/velcro system is not adequate. How difficult would it be to include a few belt loops? In fact, I would be quite happy to ditch the Velcro adjuster system for some real belt loops. If there were belt loops, I think I could give these pants 4/5 stars. As it is, the belt loop issue is a deal breaker for me, as far as purchasing another pair of these pants.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

The shorts fit awesome and the liner helps on long rides. all the pockets are awesome....

Fantastic shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

I am totally digging these shorts. They are super comfy, especially the chamois. They breath well and are very durable.

New favorite shorts

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 3XL

These shorts are a perfect fit very breathable lots of pockets and a super nice feel. I have bought 2 more colors since. I do a lot of trail riding during the week so there great for what I need them to do.

Great short but has size flaw

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is an awesome short, but the removable chamois is smaller than the short. I love the feel and features of the short, but I had to trade out the removable chamois with one that fits me. The chamois waist was easily an inch smaller than the short waist. Other than that i would order the short again. I gave the chamois to my 15 year old, 125lb son and they fit him fine.

New favorite short

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shorts are great. I will probably be getting a second pair soon. There are 5 pockets: 1 zippered pocket on the left side and 2 on the right. One of the right pockets is a dedicated media/cell phone pocket which will hold average size smart phones pretty securely. The other right pocket has a caribiner to attach your keys to if you like, or you can remove it. Then there are two front pockets like regular shorts.

The material is a good balance between durability and low weight. The waist adjustment works well. The included liner shorts are actually not bad! Would definitely recommend these shorts.

Favorite shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

These shorts are great. Plenty of stretch and ventilation. The pockets are great. Fits true to size for me. One of my favorite things is that the logo on the back is rubberized, and helps prevent the shorts from sliding down while riding. I've had a few spills, but no sign of excess wear. The chamois is ok, however I usually pair these with my Fox chamois for longer rides.

Nice shorts, bit baggy

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I am between sizes-- usually wear a 31 pant-- but they are adjustable and I like the liner. The materials feel nice and are very lightweight. Lots of pockets and clean lines!

Favorite Pair of Bike Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I picked these shorts up for a trip to Moab, UT and Fruita, CO recently and absolutely loved the fit/performance they offered me. They ended up being a comfortable, loose pair of shorts with the perfect amount of stretch. The padding was also comfortable and helped keep me on the saddle longer.

I have a size 38 waist and the XL fit me fine. This is an excellent and quality pair of bike shorts for a great price compared to other companies producing bike shorts with padding. I love this company because they are all about biking so they can really focus on the quality of their products.

The Bike Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Awesome shorts that I have biked in for over a year now. Everyday use during the bike season here in SLC and almost just as many days cruising the town after a ride as well.

Very Durable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

These have become my go to MTB shorts - they fit perfect, have excellent pocket configuration and depth, are ultra durable and look great too. I prefer shorts that aren't super baggy and these fit the bill.

Do you Pizza-Dope? Check these out!

  • Size Bought: Medium

I was in need of some baggies. There are so many options out there- it could be overwhelming. I tried these on a whim and have been pleasantly surprised!

- Pockets-WOOHOO (storing things!)
- A variety of colors for all of your styling needs
- Stretchy waist band for superb comfort. Accidentally ate a large pizza last night? Competing with Taco Tuesday? No biggie, throw these bad boys on and you're going to shred in style and comfort. 5'11 with fluctuation between 165-175 depending on current pizza intake conditions(CPIC)

What is your waist size? Would these work well for someone in-between 33 with the adjustable straps?

I liked everything but the fit

Everything functional about these shorts was good, but I found the fit to be to my dislike. They were too baggy and long for my tastes and I know a lot of fans of this style of shorts.

    Great All round Biking/Hiking

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

Use these all the times mountain biking. The chamois makes riding a lot more comfortable. Even had a couple spills and they held up, no tears/rips. I've worn them with knee pads on a few descents and they fit over knee pads well.

Remove the chamois and they turn into great hiking shorts. All around great shorts for outdoor adventures.

One shorts to rule them all...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

If I had to choose one shorts to take with me this will be it. Comfortable for all day riding (XC) and durable enough to handle the rough stuff (Enduro). The shorts are long enough to accommodate my POC VPD air knee pads. The color options are pretty extensive too so you can get a killer look while you climb or bomb down a mountain of choice. Truly amazed that Zoic was able to price it so cheap compared to the other MTB shorts out there (shh!). Don't take my word for it. Buy one to see for yourself that these shorts are the bees knees.
