NOT Recommended (Very Poor Service Life)
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I recently bought a few of these from Competitive Cyclist. My wife and I are recreational cyclists who ride 150 to 200 miles a week and own about 10 bikes. I put this on my Orbea Orca, replacing my usual go to (Fizik tape). Within 3 50 to 70 mile rides the tape failed (coating came off right near the hoods). I pulled the tape and re-wrapped in reverse to try to get more life. 3 more similar rides (dry conditions, moderate temperatures in the 60s to low 90s) the tape failed again today. This is really not acceptable from a brand like Zipp, in my opinion. (Certainly bar tape is a wear part, but not this fast. I usually get a season out of the Fizik or similar brands like Specialized). i will re-wrap the bars with another set of Zipp tape as I have no choice right now (have several of the same color, black). But I won't be buying this tape again. Note that I own a fair bit of SRAM and Zipp stuff and have usually been happy. Also, I sent a note to Zipp and their response was basically "I appreciate the feedback and will send this information to the appropriate channels" but nothing more.
