Engineered for low aerodynamic drag and precise handling in just about any type of riding conditions, the Zipp 302 Carbon Clincher Road Wheel provides the ride that Zipp is known for, at a price that makes carbon quality and performance more affordable than ever. Crafted in Indianapolis, USA, the 302’s slick carbon rim is hand-assembled to Zipp’s 76/176 hubs using Belgian CX-Sprint spokes and brass spoke nipples, which results in a fast, reliable wheel that's tough enough to survive the road less traveled, yet light enough to charge up climbs on the steepest grades.

The 45mm rim depth delivers tried and true aero benefits with high levels of balance and stability, while remaining nimble enough to handle all types of terrain and varying wind conditions. It's tough enough to withstand the rigors of cyclocross and gravel-grinding as well. The 302 also boasts the same rim bed design as Zipp's other carbon clinchers to ensure that tire removal and installation as easy as possible. Then, the 76/176 hubset’s axle end caps and rear freehub are easily removed without tools for quick and convenient cleaning and lubrication.

Please note that brake pads aren't included. Zipp recommends its Tangente Platinum Pro Evo pads.

    Budget Friendly

    I was looking for a race wheel that wasn't going to brake my bank. These wheels make the jump from training wheels to race wheels. While these aren't top of the line, the amount you have to pay to get better wheels doesn't translate to as big of a result as these wheels when compared to training wheels. If you are looking for race wheels that won't break your bank, are stiff, aero, and ready to cruise, these wheels are for you.

    Great product

    I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

    I bought these as a gift for really close friend who needed to up her game in the racing scene up East.... I raced on Zipp wheels (404's) some time ago and was amazed at the stability, durability and responsiveness of the product so when my friend asked about them, I told her she couldn't go wrong. Great wheel for a great price.

    My Campy Zonda alu wheels weigh about 100 grams less at 1/2 the price...of course they don't have the carbon cachet...

    Donaldo, aero is almost always more important that weight when it comes to speed.

    Great wheel for the price

    I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    I tried these wheels for a day on an Alchemy Eros and was very pleased. They lived up to their name and are a great option for a high value carbon rim without breaking the bank in comparison to some others in a similar category. For a mid depth rim, it handled wind gusts well and maintained speed with the aerodynamic profile. Paired with 28's, they felt great handling rough roads and cornered great. and a good all around wheel. I was a bit worried about braking while descending down the canyon, but had plenty of control and predictability. For reference, I am 5'10 155lbs. The rims felt really solid when sprinting and held their own. This is a solid overall wheel that does everything well from climbing to aerodynamics. I recommend these wheels.

    I'm not good enough for 303s

    I've used it several times

    I rode these for a week on the Ridley Helium eTap we have available on the site right now, and I was floored. You literally get 90% of the performance of 303s at a fraction of the price. They rode fantastic on 25c rubber, they were wonderfully stiff, and they killed it in the crosswinds. These aren't just a great value, these are GREAT wheels.

    best carbon performance per dollar

    I've put it through the wringer

    I've been lucky enough to put a few hundred miles on a demo set of these wheels and I've been nothing but pleased. To indentify where I'm coming from, the wheelset usually on my bike is a pair of Reynolds Assault clinchers, so my comparisons will largely be based on that frame of reference. The Zipps feel stiff, and I am able to run my brake pads a few mm away from the braking surface without any contact between those parts under heavy sprinting loads. I weigh about 200 pounds (91 kg) and put out about 1300 watts for my five second power last time I rode with a power meter, so I tend to notice when wheels are flexy. The braking on these wheels has been the biggest surprise; it's excellent for carbon. I've ridden these wheels in a wide variety of conditions, including a 10k descent in the rain, and not once did I feel a lack of confidence under braking. Additionally, there are no disconcerting sounds under heavy braking, which is sometimes the case with carbon clinchers. The 302's come with J bend spokes, which in my experience work just fine and are easier to service/replace if necessary, and do not have the dimpled surface found on Zipp's top end offerings. I'm sure that in a wind tunnel this would be a measurable difference, but in the real world, I was completely content with the smooth rim surface. I will say that the seam between between carbon sheets on the inner lip of the rim (the portion closest to the hub, where the spoke nipples are) could be a little bit cleaner, but bearing in mind the price of this wheelset relative to other carbon clinchers from trusted brands, it's not enough for me to knock a star off the review. All things considered, this is one of my favorite wheelsets that we carry. For the sake of comparison, For $1,500 you get Zipp reliability, noticable aerodynamic improvements, and braking that you'll feel confident with on prolonged descents. Going up in price beyond $1,500 will yield a wheel with some more features and very similar performance; what it really comes down to is whether those relatively diminished returns are worth it to you.

    Zach - compared to your Reynolds Assaults how easy was it to install the tires? I hear it is really hard to get tires on the Assaults. Which are better wheel since yo have ridden both the Zip 302 and the Assaults?

    David S. - I never had to change tires on the 302's while I had them, as they came with Tangente Speed tires already installed. Interestingly enough, my rear Assault tire was reasonably easy to remove and install, but the front was borderline impossible, even with all the usual tricks; try to get the bead in the middle of the rim, start opposite the valve stem, etc. It was a huge pain and I've heard the same from others. I can only presume that changing tires on the 302 will be much easier than the Assault.

    I’ve mounted 25mm Conti GP4000s on the 302s with ease. Hope this helps.

Weight- Respectable - 1645g Weight limit- Great- 250lbs Performance- Fantastic- 45mm all-arounders, made in Indianapolis, attainable Zipps built with speed and reliability in mind Value- Expletive Phenomenal $1500 Brake pads aren't included- So you will want to pick up the Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pads as well.
