What's pretty cool about bike racing is that, except for a few exceptions, we can ride the same equipment as our favorite riders. The SB6 is a favorite of Yeti's EWS team who rally enduro tracks around the world. Innovations in carbon technology build a frame tough enough to handle the rigors of enduro racing, lift days in the park, yet still light enough to slog out big miles in the backcountry. If you’re looking to win a World Championship or your local KOM, grams count and the new TURQ material maintain stiffness and durability while cutting around 260 grams from the frame. The SB6 TURQ XT Complete Mountain Bike adds Shimano's exceptional XT brakes and drivetrain, building a bike that can day-in and day-out handle anything you and the trail can dish out. The increased gear range brings 1x to Shimano fans without resorting to hop-up cassette cogs or derailleur modifications and the FOX suspension and dropper, Race Face Turbine crank and stem, and DT Swiss wheels all contribute to the no-nonsense solid spec.
The SB6 TURQ Series frame is a hair over 6 pounds and made with the highest quality carbon fiber available. An impressive feat for a bike sporting 6 inches of travel and stiff and durable enough to handle the abuse guys like Rude and company dish out regularly. The bike crushes the descents with the spirit of a DH bike but is very manageable pedaling between stages and on all all-day epics. Frames are lab tested and certified to handle the abuse and proven to perform on the trails and race courses.
Lightweight, frame stiffness, and durability only gets you so far. Quality suspension is key to how balanced the bike will ride and its ability to gobble up terrain. Switch Infinity gives Yeti the characteristics it seeks with its patented translating pivot. The pivot switches direction as the bike moves through its travel providing a linear, plush feel off the top and manipulating the wheel path and leverage ratio throughout the travel offering great mid-rage support and bottom out resistance. Yeti owns this design and notes that the mechanical advantage of this system could not be achieved with traditional link designs. We're not sure if the plushness or the pedaling efficiency is our favorite attribute of the design but it really doesn't matter since it does both well and throughout the ride.
The geometry works in perfect harmony with the suspension adding confidence to our riding and has us trying new lines and at higher speed than before. A 65.5-degree headtube angle keeps the bike stable at high speed yet nimble enough to on tight trails. The low bottom bracket encourages quick cornering and berm blasting. The position is perfect for extended climbing when needed and does nothing preventing you from pinning it back down. With such high speed, we are happy that Yeti includes the custom down tube protector and chain guard keeping rock strikes from damaging the carbon and muffling chain slap. Other nice details include the collet axle system at the pivots to reduce bearing wear.
The Shimano XT group is a perfect spec for this frame. The brakes are among our favorites offering unrivaled power and modulation. The 11-46t cassette brings legitimate 1x gearing to devoted Shimano riders with a range low enough to handle extended climbs and tall enough for that last push to the line. Quality parts throughout extend to the FOX suspension and all-condition Maxxis tires.
