The current crop of all-mountain and enduro bikes are nothing short of amazing. We feel pretty safe saying that the newer bikes are every bit as capable of tackling terrain that was once territory of DH only bikes just a few short years ago. That is an impressive feat but even more astonishing when you consider that these bikes can climb on all day and they pedal as well as trail bikes from that same era. One bike that fits this bill very nicely and is the perfect take anywhere, no holds barred bike is the Yeti SB6. The TURQ frame that we have on this X01 Eagle Complete Mountain Bike build is the same frame that Yeti's Enduro World Series team trust to guide them on demanding tracks around the globe. Advancements in carbon materials and techniques allow Yeti to build a frame that's durable enough to handle the roughest enduro stages and double black diamond trails yet light enough to pedal back up to the top of mountain and do it all over again. Sporting six inches of Switch Infinity travel, the SB6 is engineered to excel at pro caliber EWS level racing as well as bragging rights with your riding pals. Yeti ensures that their frames are able to handle high stresses by testing their frames to rigorous standards ensuring stiffness and impacts meet their criteria. It claims their high modulus TURQ carbon fiber to be every bit as strong and stiff as their traditional carbon construction, but with significant weight savings in the neighborhood of 9.3 ounces. Adding FOX suspension and SRAM's X01 group takes this frame to new heights and will have you testing your limits on every ride.
Yeti doesn't leave hardware and parts to chance and each part is custom made and not some off the shelf items. In doing so, all the bits fit exceptionally well and interfaces stay true to perform at a high level for a long time. The collet-style axle system on the pivots reduce bearing wear, noise, and play. Yeti specs Enduro Max sealed bearings which have full-complement chromium steel balls and are ideally suited to the high-load, low rotation applications of suspension pivots. If you feel the need to install a chainguard, integrated ISCG-05 mounts on the PF92 bottom bracket shell are at your service. Intuitive, internal cable routing keeps the frame's lines clean and cables and housing out of harm's way. The integrated boost rear axle and derailleur hanger system simplifies the rear end and increases the rigidity of the hanger ensuring crisp derailleur action when firing off shifts. Yeti includes custom molded rubber guards on the downtube and chainstay helping to keep things quiet and it protects the carbon in these vulnerable areas. Clearance for enduro de rigueur 2.5 inch tires allow for a healthy amount of rubber contact on the trail. Set up is as simple as dialing in the FOX DPX2 Factory shock to 30% sag, set the compression and rebound to your liking and prepare to unlock trail features you use to only dream about.
Our favorite thing about the SB6 is how confident inspiring the ride is. It allows you to ride absolutely pinned through the sketchiest lines with ease and never ceases to amaze us with the velocity it carries on the trails. EWS riders Richie Rude and Cody Kelley provide Yeti with valuable feedback and that creates a bike giving us the courage to push harder and bigger lines. A longer reach and low bottom bracket height gives you more room in the cockpit and surefooted handling while the 44 to 56mm tapered headtube sits right in at 65.5 degrees with the FOX Factory 160mm fork. The rangy wheelbase gives the SB6 unflappable composure when you're wide open in full plow mode.
We can't sing the praises loud enough about the Switch Infinity suspension platform. It is a game changer and possesses efficient pedaling for all-day epics and plush travel for park days or shuttles. This balance is achieved through a patented translating pivot that automatically switches its direction as the bike progresses deeper through its travel, hence its Switch Infinity namesake. Yeti's engineers sought to deliver excellent anti-squat characteristics for superior pedaling performance and ideal suspension characteristics as it gets deeper into its travel. The unit is comprised of a pair of greased bushings that slide up and down on two Kashima coated rails. Maintenance couldn't be easier, just keep it greased and wiped clean.
The wide range SRAM X01 Eagle group gives us plenty of gear for extended climbs and racing the sunset on the way home. This is Yeti's most popular build and for good reason. The components work amazingly well and match the frame's durability, performance, and light weight. You really couldn't ask of anything else form the FOX suspension and even the tire spec has been carefully chosen to exploit the most potential from this bike as possible.
