SB6 Carbon GX Eagle Complete Mountain Bike

Piloted to numerous EWS victories and countless regional enduro wins, the Yeti SB6 is proven at elite levels of racing by Yeti's pro riders. It's a bike built for conquering big terrain with speed and confidence. With 6.0in of rear travel and 6.7in up front, the SB6 is optimized for smashing downhills, but with the proven pedaling platform of the Switch Infinity suspension, it's right at home on the transfer stages as well. Advancements in carbon technology are part of the bike's impressive capability, allowing Yeti to build a frame that's strong enough to handle the gnarliest enduro stages or bike park lines, while remaining light and efficient enough for big rides in the backcountry with plenty of climbing. This particular bike, the SB6 Carbon GX Eagle Complete Mountain Bike, gives you the full experience of the hard-charging SB6 with a smart component spec that's a little more friendly on the wallet.

The SB6 is built for speed, so Yeti tests the frame to DH standards of strength and stiffness and backs it up with a lifetime warranty for good measure. Considering that it must hold up to the aggressive riding of Richie Rude, Yeti's long-running professional enduro bruiser, the SB6 is certainly strong enough for the rest of us. That being said, rugged terrain is an inherent part of mountain biking, so Yeti incorporates custom frame protectors on the down tube and chainstay to help withstand rock strikes and chain slap. Yeti constructs the frame from their C-Series carbon fiber, finding the right balance of strength, stiffness, and compliance while helping to keep costs down with a revised carbon layup and a marginal 250g weight penalty.

The key to the SB6's success is the Switch Infinity suspension offering 152mm (6.0in) of plush yet efficient travel. The characteristically smooth Yeti ride quality is due to the linear suspension curve offered by the translating main pivot, aka the Switch Infinity link. The link moves upward in the beginning of the travel, providing an initially high anti-squat value for a superior pedaling platform that makes this bike climb much better than the geometry and travel numbers would indicate. Further into the travel, the link moves back downward, allowing the anti-squat to drop away so the custom-tuned Float DPX2 rear shock can soak up terrain as intended. These characteristics provide excellent mid-stroke support for popping off trail features, and a bottomless feel to the travel for bigger hits and hard landings. We can confirm that Switch Infinity rides like no other, being one of the smoothest designs we've ridden to date.

Complementing the buttery suspension performance is the SB6's long, low, and slack geometry that contributes to the bike's impressive handling at speed and the confidence it inspires on the descents. The head tube angle sits at a slack 64.9 degrees with a 170mm fork, working with the long wheelbase to provide unwavering stability when things get rowdy. The 17.4in chainstays are not short, but they add to the bike's surefooted handling, and can still be piloted around tight switchbacks with relative ease. The seat tube and standover height are fairly low, letting you drop your saddle and crouch down into a proper attack position, lowering your center of gravity for more control on descents and tricky corners.

The hardware and parts on the SB6 are custom made for the bike, ensuring everything works together as a system to perform at the highest level for a very long time. The Enduro Max sealed bearings are well-suited to the high loads of aggressive riding, while the collet axle system on the pivots helps to reduce bearing wear, improving the life of the moving parts. The Switch Infinity link itself is a bombproof system built by Fox, engineered to withstand the worst riding conditions. It features Kashima coated stanchions for low friction and durability, while the seals and bushings are of the same grade used in Fox's motor sports division. For good measure, Yeti includes the Switch link in the frame's lifetime warranty. Moving to the rear of the bike, an integrated axle and derailleur hanger is built for simplicity and strength. The left-hand threads that secure the hanger allow Yeti to use the same machined piece to hold the axle in place, a clever system that improves stiffness and durability. It's worth noting that the frame has clearance for up to 2.5in rear tires, though this can vary depending on the brand.

This GX Eagle build comes with a smart components spec that doesn't leave much to be desired for the pragmatic rider. A Fox Performance 36 fork paired with a Fox Performance DPX2 rear shock easily slays chunky rock or root gardens, with each one having simple but necessary adjustments to dial them in for your individual weight and riding style. SRAM's GX Eagle drivetrain delivers the same precise shifting as it's higher-end XO1 and XX1 cousins, but with a minor weight penalty due to differences in material construction. You still get the same wide gear range and 50t bailout gear that enable you to conquer the entire mountain, whether it's cranking up a brutally steep climb, or quick acceleration out of a dodgy corner into a rugged fall-line descent.
