Soar to New Heights.

It’s a pleasure riding all the new bikes that come through our doors, but one bike that has really left a lasting impression is the Yeti SB5.5. It's such a blast to ride at speed and considering that it's a bike that can handle such gnarly terrain, it isn't a pig to pedal all day or feel like a slug on the climbs. Taking this frame to its highest potential and lust-worthiness is the XX1 Eagle group. If you are looking for the paramount build on the ultimate enduro and trail rig, look no further than the SB5.5 Turq XX1 Eagle Complete Mountain Bike.

The frame construction on this bike utilizes TURQ Series carbon and Yeti denotes it as the highest quality carbon fiber available offering the perfect balance of stiffness and compliance. This results in a bike that feels smooth, solid, and aggressive, exactly what we want in a ride! EWS World Champion Richie Rude and Yeti's in-house testing team and ambassadors constantly put TURQ frames to the test on rugged terrain in remote locations and that leaves us never questioning frame durability or strength. Based on the feedback Yeti receives, they fine tune every detail down to the most minute component so the bike can perform best in the environment it was intended.

At the heart of what allows Yeti bikes to ride as well as they do, is the Switch Infinity suspension platform. Switch Infinity utilizes a patented translating pivot that switches direction as the bike moves through its travel. This provides excellent anti-squat characteristics for superior pedaling performance and ideal suspension characteristics as it gets deeper into its travel. Yeti (and no one else for that matter) wouldn't be able to produce a suspension design that feels this linear and with this amount of anti-squat with a traditional link design. Working with FOX, this translating pivot uses the finest quality low-friction seals, bushings, and bearings and is super durable and dependable. Yeti has field tested the parts for over three years and the original bushings, seals, and stanchions are still in perfect working condition.

We aren't sure if it is the handling, out-right speed, ability to conquer trails both up and down, or some combination of all of those that has us loving the 5.5 so much. We know how much geometry dictates the way a bike rides and Yeti's experience and feedback from some of its great riders help to form the numbers here that are so universally loved. The headtube angle, with a 160mm fork, sits right at 66.5-degrees. It's probably not a coincidence that number is mirrored on some other bikes too that have great technical prowess without losing the penchant to climb. The 17.2 inch chainstay length is long enough for excellent high speed stability and short enough to keep the bike nimble. And it's not just nimble for a 29er, we're talking straight-up nimble. What is amazing is nothing feels like a compromise. It's more like a jack-of-all-trades, master of all.

This Yeti SB5.5 gets all the goodies and the build here makes it a superbike that you will want to fly down a ribbon of singletrack whenever you have free time. SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain has plenty of range on hand if you have 5-digits worth of ascending to do without running out of gear riding the road to the trail head or chasing a Strava trophy. SRAM's RSC brakes consistently give us the power we are looking allowing us to feel comfortable pushing our limits. A Chris King headset promises decades of reliability and smooth steering, it's just a shame that the beautifully machined and anodized cups are tucked away from our eyes and pressed within the headtube. FOX Factory suspension offers tons of control, adjustments, and durability, seriously good stuff. You'll soon be venturing for the steepest, roughest climbs and rowdiest descents you can dream of and this bike will have you conquering trails you never thought possible.
