Ride it like you stole it.
So refined is Yeti's geometry and Switch Infinity platform that the only difference between the female going Yeti Beti's and all other Yetis is the paint scheme. An SB5 Beti frame is designed exactly the same as the standard turquoise SB5, with a touch of aesthetic treatment designed in collaboration with Yeti's sponsored lady racers, who the brand refers to as Betties. It's just as eager to attack gnarly trails and has the same appetite for a gravity-fueled diet as the unisex bikes. So if your ride has seen better days or you're progressing quicker than your bike can handle, check out the SB5 Beti Carbon Mountain Bike Frame - 2017.
The SB5 Beti frame is a great foundation for a quality trail bike build. What always impresses us is how quickly this bike can climb and balance it with how capable it is downhill. This is largely because of Yeti's Switch Infinity slider that has the ability to alter the bike's leverage ratio throughout the shock's travel. As the rear end compresses deeper, the direction changes and the slider travels down towards the bottom bracket shell. Deep in the stroke, it works in conjunction with the upper pivot to produce a vertical wheel path that effortlessly flattens big, square-edged impacts. The Switch Infinity always receives high praise in bike shootouts for a ride that is simply peerless offering traction and comfort that other designs can't replicate.
Naturally, there will be those who balk at the idea of having a seemingly complicated pivot, but in reality, it's lighter and more user-friendly than the Switch Link pivot that it replaces. The lightness can be attributed to the Kashima-coated mini-stanchions and feathery forged shuttle, which were co-developed with FOX Racing Shox. Ease of use comes courtesy of the easily-accessible grease ports, which do away with the need for time-consuming rebuilds. Not that you'll need to worry about rebuilds, as FOX has successfully tested production units to well over a million compression cycles while completely submerged in mud.
The SB5 Beti frame is a sum of its parts though and while the Switch Infinity might be the star of the show, we cannot forget the carbon fiber construction giving this bike excellent durability and low mass. Frame weights are just north of six pounds with shock, depending on size, which puts it on the lighter end of the trail bike spectrum without sacrificing strength or stiffness. The frame climbs so well that it'll make an e-bike pilot question their purchase, and with a long, low geometry, a tapered head tube, and a thru-axle, it handles technical trail features like you're on a bike path.
