Free to ride.

If you need coverage and technical features that'll see you through dawn to dark rides, the Yeti Cycles Freeland Shorts are your best friend on the trail. Stash pockets are generous and easy to access while riding, preventing any needless dismounts that'll stall you from covering ground. However, that's from from the extent of Yeti's attention to both detail and quality.

The Freeland shorts are constructed from a tough, yet malleable stretch polyester that facilitates excellent maneuverability around the bike. So, negotiating technical sections of trail is now a far more simplified affair. This characteristic is further enhanced by a rear stretch panel and a wide waistband with both tech webbing and silicone grippers. This system comfortably holds the Freeland in position without inciting the risk of either bunching or pinching.

And when the sun heats things up, you needn't worry, as Yeti took ample measures to keep you cool. The shorts feature zip venting at the thighs and stitched rivet vents to accomplish this goal. Adding to this, the shorts' fabric was selected for its lightweight and breathable characteristics. In terms of pedaling comfort, Yeti enhanced the material by incorporating glide patches that reduce, if not eliminate, irritation. In addition to this, Yeti has also treated the shorts' material with a DWR finish. So, with its added water-repellency, you'll remain protected when the weather changes up on the mountain.

The Freeland is also compatible with Yeti's Liner, which features an Italian-made chamois, for those that need the highest level of long-ride comfort.

The Yeti Cycles Freeland Shorts are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large. Please note that Yeti bases its size from the waist. So, a Small is a waist size 30, Medium is a 32, Large is a 34, X-Large is a 36, and XX-Large is a 38.

  • Adjustable waist
  • Compatible with Yeti’s Liner, sold separately
  • Multiple stash pockets
  • Zippered vents
  • DWR treatment

Only MTB Shorts You Need

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have riden several times with these, and they are the best MTB shorts I have owned. I wear the Yeti Como Liner with these, and they are a great pair for any avid MTB. Comfortable, yet can handle the usage. Zippers are very durable. There are plenty of pockets for storage. Strongly encourage these for your next pair of shorts.

  • Fit: True to size

I've only ridden a couple of times with these, but so far, they are great. The material doesn't seem stretchy, but there is no restriction of movement at all. This includes making climbs or trying to bomb a long downhill. The pants hang over the knees and don't interfere with knee pads at all. The side zip pockets are good sized, and the additional hand pockets are deep enough that they are actually useful. The shorts breathe well and are pretty cool, even at temps in he 70s.

I was worried about the sizing since some reviews said that the shorts run small. If anything, the waist is larger than expected. If you have doubts, get a soft tape measure and actually measure your waist. You might be surprised by what clothing manufactures are "telling" what your waist size is.

Tried on a couple shorts these are king

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shorts are fantastic! They contour to your riding form perfectly and have all the bells and whistles you would want without any excess.

  • Size Bought: Small

Yeti knocked it out of the park with these shorts! These are by far some of the most comfortable bike shorts I've ever had. They are light weight while still being durable, shedding water and mud. Plenty of pockets that are well placed and not cumbersome like a lot of shorts in this category. I'll be picking up another pair in the Yeti blue to put into the rotation.

So comfortable!

  • Fit: Runs small

These are great for quick trail rides or long ones too. I'm normally not a fan of shorts with a ton of pockets, but can't seem to take these off! The pockets are well thought out, and very functional while on the bike.

Killer Shorts, multipurpose

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Have used these for many trail rides in north central AZ, on very hardpacked terrain, lots of red rock and sandstone, all plants here are like barbwire, they shred clothes. These shorts have been beat and used as every day wear shorts, they are that good. Besides MTB, they have been used hiking, running, swimming, hot tubs, pools, creeks, lakes, taken several good spills, the shorts saved my upper thighs and rear end from getting seriously abraded. They have faded after a hard spring. summer, & fall and many washings (got the brown & yellow ones) but, the buttons, zippers and vents still work flawlessly. Medium'ish sized pockets, can hold cell in one, wallet and blade in other, or 4-6 gels in one pocket, two bars in the other.
Best MTB shorts I have owned in the last 10 years, lots of cheap quality stuff out there today, these are the real deal and can take heavy usage. They have a nice adjustment system (waist tabs, small webbing and friction buckles in front waist on both sides) and a no slip strip around the inside waist (3 silicone tacky strips), if you tuck in a baggier sized jersey, so its not flappin' and gettin' caught on cactus, junipers, or the worst out here...mesquite!, have "butt burned" these over a dozen times on my rear tire hard, and the shorts do not have nylon burn, no tear, no frays. The front vents (across top of inner thigh) are awesome for ventilation when its hot out. They also dry quickly if used as board shorts, well done Yeti! Getting more as daily wear, for beater shorts if they ever go back on sale. I'm a 34-35 waist and got the XL size, perfect fit. These are not hipster, 'too tight' shorts...these are man shorts.
Get You Some!

I agree 100%. One of the best MTB Shorts out there. I also like the Yeti Tellers and the Como Liners.

Comfortable with good look

Shorts fit to size. Great fit and comfortable. Appear to be durable. Would get a second pair.

Perfect MTB Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: L 34

After owning several pairs of cheaper MTB shorts of late, the overall quality of these shorts stands out. Awesome material, design, fit, and function. Great length and right amount of baggy-ness mixed with cycle specific fit around the crotch so you won't get hung up on the seat. Best shorts i've tried, I will certainly be ordering another pair. I am 6'1" 180 with a 32 inch waist and fairly large legs/rear and find the 34s fits well and true to size - i.e. have extra room in the waist but can be cinched down comfortably with the waist cinches.

Versatile - Yeti is Golden

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 36

I have been riding the last three years throughout most of Colorado's trails (technical and cross country) on athletic shorts. The best being HYLETE's verge shorts. Until I road in these. The quality and design is excellent. I found my self wearing these around town. The pockets are in the perfect location for avoiding items pocking into on your ride. Plus I like the not slip grip on the waist band. Note: they run a little small

Can't Be Faulted

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M/32

These may be the most comfortable pair of shorts I have ever used. Good pocket space for storing the necessities on the trail. Yeti made their shorts with the same attention to detail as their bikes. LOVE them!

Love the fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

  • Size Bought: L/34

I really like these. They're cut well for pedaling. I wouldn't necessarily put them down as a relaxed fit. I found them to be more regular fit to fitted in the areas around your saddle. This is great for pedaling and keeps you from getting hung up on your seat. Great pockets and I like the zip vents in the front. They run true to size.

What more needs to be said??

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: xl

So I have had a chance to ride in Norrona, Pearl Izumi, and Dynafit MTB shorts, and these are by far my favorite! From downhill parks to cross country rides, these shorts kill it. The front zips allow for venting to cool off on those super hot rides, and there is plenty of flexibility to ride all day. Having just made the transition to clipless pedals and taking a couple tumbles along the way, I can honestly say these stand up to the test. No tears thus far and they are EXTREMELY comfortable! They do run a tad small... I normally wear a 34 waist and got the XL and they work perfect.... the waist cinches work perfectly. Pick these up and tear it up on the trail! Hit me up directly if you have questions about these or other Yeti biking apparel.

Almost perfect shorts

These shorts for great and are perfectly cut for riding. The inseam is high enough to negotiate the saddle with easy but the shorts are slack enough to be comfortable to pedal in and walk around in. The pockets aren't great for leaving anything in while riding though. Suggest pairing with a good padded liner.

Thanks for the review AJ. I would recommend the Yeti Como Liners for anyone looking for a good chamois to pair with the Freelands.

    Great biking shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I have used these shorts several times this year and I love them. They go really well with the Yeti Como Liner and combined are probably some of the best set ups for biking. I really like the zipper mesh vent feature on the front of the shorts to help you cool off faster. They have a DWR treatment on them for those days where you get caught in the rain and don't want to get totally soaked. The stash pocket is great for holding those smaller items like car keys or headphones. If you are looking for a new pair of biking shorts I would for sure give these a look.

    Function and Style

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

These are exceptional shorts: lightweight, super comfy, and ample storage without being excessively baggy. I even took a small spill and the shorts held up nicely. These are now part of my regular kit.

    great shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32

I use these shorts all the time! they fit great I bought the 32" waist and they fit me fine, I do not use a liner in them because I don't like the feel of them. The vents would be better for me if they had some mesh liner behind them but definitely not a deal breaker.

    Functional Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large

These shorts work well. They fit a little snug. Not terrible, but I did go to an L instead of my regular M. Material is durable and I love the thigh vents. Pockets are functional enough. I put these on and then don't think about them again until I'm done riding.

    Great shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

i wear a large and they fit as expected. wish they had two back pockets and not one.

    Excellent quality!

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

I wear 34" shorts and 36" Levis because I prefer a little extra room and like to breathe in Levis. The XL shorts fit me perfect and I'm buying a second pair. The quality and craftsmanship in these shorts can't be beat and I like the color selection.

    Good looking shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

They do not run small as far as the waist and the shorts is concern. I think what people are referring to when they said it run small is the crotch is a bit shallow especially when wearing a liner underneath. I took it to my drycleaner and my number 1 seamstress in the world analyzed the crap out of it and crotch would be better served with an extra inch. Hence the 4 stars rating
