SpareRide Hitch Rack

Make your spare tire earn its keep with the Yakima SpareRide Hitch Rack. This two-bike carrier securely mounts to rear-mounted spares between P195 and P318 in size. It holds up to 70-pounds in total weight, making it ideally suited for carrying both road and mountain bikes. Anti-sway cradles prevent bikes from bumping into each other at highway speeds. ZipStrips effortlessly attach bikes to the rack. Steel construction ensures longevity on the road, with the carrying arms folding down when they're not in use. And to deter unsavory types from simply walking away with your prized possessions, the rack features SKS bike locks and a locking knob interface.

It Works

I've put it through the wringer

I originally tried to get a extension on my hitch. With newer mountain bikes it can be tricky to get more than one on there safely and I think trays are the way to go. Unfortunately, even with the extension I could only get one bike on there so I ended up settling on this. I didn't have issues fitting to my stock tire and wheel and it is plenty secure but is not much space for two bikes. It fits them but it takes some wrestling, ah well. It's not pretty but it gets the job done.

Needs a better description

I'm aggravated with Yakima racks right now. This rack said it would work with a tire up to 12.5" wide. My tires are 10.5" wide. The rack should mount with no issues, correct? Wrong! There was nothing in the instructions about any particular back spacing... my bike rack won't fit on the tire now! Hahahaha just my luck. The description needs to state the proper tire width and back spacing of the wheel. If you have 35x10.5 tires with after market wheels (steel wheels and yes even the stupid poser wheels) this rack will not work unless Yakima makes a longer adapter.
