Functional and stout.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I needed a creative way to carry 2 sea kayaks and various other Yakima accessories on my 1963 VW Single Cab pickup truck. It took some engineering and creativity, but the system works great and is firm and secure - even on a 54-year-old truck.
Can these be used to transport a 16ft canoe?
We chose the Yakima/Outdoorsman 300 - Full Size towers to carry our two kayaks (Dagger and Vapor). They were a cinch to install (even with a liner in our truck bed). The only thing is, we can't leave them on our truck because they're too tall to get in and out of our garage, so we have to put them on and take them off every time we go kayaking. But while they're on, they are extremely sturdy and we've never had an issue with anything coming loose.
Do these things adjust vertically?
Do these things adjust vertically?
I checked on the Yakima Outdoorsman 300 and it does not vertically adjust once it is installed.

Sorry this may be a dumb question. Is the price listed on the site for one rack tower or the pair? I know you have to buy the bars separate. Thanks
One tower. Buy two if you want a pair.

Your best bet is to click on the Car Rack Configurator at the top and go through the steps. It will tell you if that rack is compatible with your model of truck.
Yakima Outdoorsman 300
Works great for two yaks. Better than putting in the back of the truck. Not as easy as I thought putting the yaks up there but worth the effort.

do you need additional gear to mount kayaks to this?
Kayaks are escape artists. That aerodynamic quality that makes them slice through the water also makes them want to take flight. In addition to tie-down straps, bow and stern tie-downs and possibly the Yakima BoatLocker, I'd take a look at the Yakima Crossbar Pads for that added bit of friction and a way to protect your kayak when you're hauling it.
Simple, solid racking
This thing is a breeze to setup. No worries about scratching or denting up your bed rails. Fits nicely on GM trucks. Stable and solid so you can cruise down the interstate with total confidence. Doesn't waste your whole evening after work to setup for day trip to the lake. No drilling, no hammering, and no struggling. I never thought it would be this easy to throw on the racking and kayaks and be gone in an hour.
