1-1/4 Class-2 Hitch needed, kinda
I wanted to highlight an informative comment by Alisha below.
This will fit Class-1, 1.25-inch hitch with some "slight" modification to the part. I was able to use this rack with a Draw-Tite, PART NUMBER: 24847, for 2012 Prius V using this "slight" modification :)
This rack is deigned to fit on a Class-2, 1.25-inch hitch. You do not need to buy the 1.25-inch adapter for this bike rack. The male end has a removable sleeve that allows it to fit into a 2-inch receiver. Just remove this sleeve and this will fit your 1.25-inch receiver.
Solid Bike Rack
This rack fits perfectly on my Nissan Pathfinder. No rocking or swaying and it is easy to remove with a socket wrench and throw in the back if you want to prevent thieves from commandeering it while you are enjoying the trail. Well made, great rack!
Very good rack!
I bought this on bonktown at the discounted price, and I must say I am very pleased with the product. I keep some pricey bikes on my rack while traveling (Cervelo S2 and Cannondale SuperSix), and never once have I felt insecure about driving at speed, or even going through rough terrain. The hitch is strong - does not sway - and for the price really cannot be beat.
Security; however, is very weak with this device. Even if you buy a hitch lock. Anybody with a wrench can come by and take the rack and leave the hitch and the arm for you to deal with. I recommend carrying a wrench in your car so you can place the rack inside while you have conscience-free riding for your next couple hours. 4 out of 5 stars - Price and function are stellar - but the security is a very big issue.
The best hitch around
The best rack for this price in the market. Beats out many products that are 2 or 3 times the price. I have been using this hitch for the past 2 months and it is just great. Great quality materials and fantastic space for four bikes. The rack keeps the bikes spaced out nicely with no movement and there are ties fort he wheels to stop them spinning while your heading down the highway. The bikes also stay a good distance from the car so they don't scratch it or bump it. It moves up and down to allow you to put shopping into your SUV when you need it. It was relatively easy to install. This is a great product at a fantastic value price. The only con is that it sticks out quite a bit which can make parking in tight spots a challenge but best to remove it when you're not using it.
Did anyone else order this and have it...
Did anyone else order this and have it come with the 1-1/4" adapter that had a 2" adapter on *it*? I thought that:
1) The 1-1/4" adapter was sold separately
2) The rack was designed to fit a 2" receiver by default
3) There wasn't an adapter for 2" receivers
I mean, I'm not complaining - I have a 1-1/4" receiver - but I'm now really confused. Even the box said 'Adapter for 1-1/4" Receiver Purchased Separately', but the instruction manual clearly indicates a 1-1/4" hitch, and tells me to remove the 2" adapter if I have a 1-1/4" receiver.

King Pin 4 works great!
I replaced a similar Thule rack, due the the fact that the bars were too wide to hold my kids bikes. The initial set up was easy and I really like this rack!
KingPin 4...rockin' the family ride
The Yak' KP4 bike rack does the trick for getting the family bikes on the back of my Toyota FJ Cruiser on family camping trips and local rides. No extender hitch, no problems with spare tire. The KP4's ability to lower for vehicle access is perfect -- no need to disassemble the rack, just a quick removal of the coupler safety lock pins and you're in! The KP4 easily secured one Y-Frame and three standard frame bikes. It is a must for anybody looking for a safe, secure means of hauling multiple bikes to roads and trail-heads. I would recommend wrenching the carriage bolt for the hitch assembly good and tight for the season. Minimum "wobble" cruising down the highway, but consider strapping (bungy cords work fine too).
Great Bike Rack
Simple, just love this rack .. very strong doesn't sway, easily handles four bikes, I've had one from five years .. and holding on to it .. we car pool for many bike rides and it holds four bikes easy !!! Well made (good quaility craftsmenship) with excellent features .. Not fancy but will last a life time .. !!!!
is stability loss on the kingpin 4 when...
is stability loss on the kingpin 4 when the 1.25 converter is used
There is a bit of stability loss. If you can use a threaded bolt instead of a standard pin, you'll retain most of the stability.
I'd recommend buying a rack with the correct size for your primary vehicle, and only use an adapter when necessary.
It is stable on my 1.25-inch hitch. Also, you don't need to buy the converter for this part because there is a removable sleeve that allows it for use with a 2-in hitch. Remove the sleeve and it will fit 1.25-in hitch. Your 1.25-in hitch should also be class-2 so that the male end will slide all the way into the receiver. Otherwise, you will need to "modify" the male end to fit into a class-1 hitch.
Gets the job done conveniently
I bought the Kingpin to transport the family's bikes on vacation to and take my roadbike to and from group rides. It performs flawlessly. I was a little worried about buying a rack that grabs the bike on the frame, as opposed to the wheel/fork, but I haven't noticed any wear on the frame to date. Being able to take the rack on and off the car quickly won out over a roof mounted system. The only pain is needing to buy an additional hitch adapter to go back and forth between receiver hitches was the only issue I had.
The Kingpin 4 is great. It is very easy to take off with a 7/8 socket wrench - I actually take it off my truck after each ride. Also, invest in a yakima hitch lock to keep the vandals away
I shopped all over for a hitch mounted bike rack at stores and the internet. Backcountry had the best price and their service from first contact through delivery was exceptional. The Yakima bike rack is an excellent product and this site did a good job.
This is a really sturdy, solid rack. Even with having to put my son's bike upside down due to the chunky frame, it didn't sway while driving. There are 3 thick rubber tabs per bike used to hold the frames in place and they are really strong but easy to snap into place. Each spot has a "V" shaped cradle that you can adjust and open or close (to fit the frame under your seat) so the bikes fit really snugly on varying frames. My only complaint is that the bike goes into the hitch with a screw-on bolt. It would be nice to have a removable one (without having to use a wrench) and I worry about the threads wearing down with my constantly taking the rack on and off. But I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone. Very solid.
Big and Burly
Fits all the bikes for you and your crew. Very solid and very stable. Be careful with little bikes though, the stabilizers make it difficult to get my girlfriend's 16-inch frame mountain bike on it.
great bike rack
Wow, this rack is great. It holds four bikes with great stability and a nice hitch mount. I could not be happier.
I also looked at the Thule racks; this is a much better piece of gear. The Thule hitch pin is one sided, and does not fit all the way through the hitch unless you buy their locking kit.
KingPin 4 is Great
I've been in love with my bike rack since the minute I received it. I can put all my bikes (4) on it and just go. It's very easy to install and you don't have to worry about the bikes scratching each other or the vehicle. Once again, great rack. Will recommend it to everyone.
King Pin 4
Rack fits well and carried 4 bikes wonderfully. The fold-down arms allowed us to leave the rack mounted on the vehicle when we were parked and no worries about it getting hit.
A solid rack with easy to use straps.
The KingPin 4 is easy to use and keeps bikes stable and secure. We used a bungee cord to keep it from rattling when just driving around with no bikes on it. Also, make sure that your hitch is rated for this rack. 1 1/4" Class I receivers have a notch that will not allow this rack to slide all the way in to the receiver, even though they are rated for carrying 200 lbs. However, once we figured this out, the rack is great - easy to get off/on, put bikes on, store, etc.
