Description

HangOver 4 Hitch Bike Rack

Whether you're running your own shuttle service or going out for a rip with the crew, Yakima makes transportation a little easier with the HangOver 4 Hitch Bike Rack. Securing to your car or truck's 2-inch hitch, this vertical rack offers a spot to haul up to four bikes (or 37.5lbs per bike). It's built from heavy-duty steel for long lasting durability, and holds bikes vertically, so they don't add to much length to your car's rear end.

It features an intuitive foot-operated tilt mechanism with two adjustable mast angles to prevent the bikes from bumping into your vehicle, while also allowing easy access to the trunk for snacks or extra layers. Rotating wheel cups secure the rear end of your bike in place, and accommodates a huge range of wheel and tire sizes. Three adjustable mast heights improve ground clearance and ease of loading while also fitting vehicles of varying sizes. And for after the ride, the HangOver features a built-in bottle opener so you can refresh yourself and cheers your friends after a successful trail day.

  • Secure, vertical hitch rack for easy shuttling to the trail
  • Four hanging bike mounts offers room for, well, four bikes
  • Foot-operated tilt mechanism makes for easy loading and unloading
  • Soft padding protects forks finish on the ride
  • Three mast angles prevent bike contact with your vehicle
  • Rotating wheel cup accommodates various wheel and tire sizes
  • Adjustable 3-position mast height gives ground clearance
  • The HangOver fits suspension-fork bikes only

Almost perfect...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rack is pretty damn good and has a lot of things going for it over its competition, the north shore rack. But its not without its quirks.

- the mounting system is solid and keeps the bikes in place. The straps really hold the bikes down and are easy to use.

- Three positions which are changed via a large foot pedal. Super handy when you need to open your trunk or change the rack into stored position.

- two hight options for longer or shorter bikes. Handy since bikes are getting so long and slack. Plus a stored position all the way down that is great when you are not using it.

The bad.

- the rack is hard for short people to load and unload. I’m very tall so it works but my shorter friends struggle.

- the height postitions are adjusted via nut and bolt. This is very solid but a quick release system would be appreciated, especially for changing the bike into and out of stored position.

- there’s a TON of play inside a 2” hitch. I don’t have any idea what they were thinking when they designed it like that. I’ve fixed most of the play with shims but it’s pretty ridiculous that a rack with this price tag does not fit tight.

- the caps on the top of the fork mounts have a tendency to pop off. I had to glue them down.

- they clearly designed this mounting system with rock shox forks. They fit perfect. Fox forks seem to fit a little off and the bikes are slightly skewed to the side. It doesn’t have any major effect but it’s kinda weird to look at.

Overall I’m happy with the product and it does exactly what’s it’s designed for quite well. But some of the design options have me scratching my head. I think Yakima just fell short of making the perfect mountain bike rack.
