Why We Like The Yakima Frontloader Bike Mount

One of the biggest hassles with bike racks has always been taking off the front wheel, putting the bike on the rack, and then stashing the front wheel somewhere. Not only that—with a bunch of different front axle standards, you have to carry all kinds of adapters around. The Yakima Frontloader Bike Rack eliminates the hassle by allowing you to load the bike directly onto the car, wheels and all.

The Frontloader works with all wheels sizes from kids' 20-inch to full-size adult road bike wheels. The only places where the rack touches your bike are at the tires, so you don't have to worry about it scratching your frame. It's also compatible with any brake system and frame configuration, so you don't have to carry adapters around.

Great for an extra rack

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I normally use my hitch mount tray-style rack, but occasionally I take my boys for a ride or we are traveling with a pop-up camper and so the bikes need to go on the roof rack. I picked this up as a way to add a tray-style rack to the roof for when I either need my full suspension 29er or my son's 20" mtb to go on the roof. I love that this rack accommodates that range of wheel sizes and doesn't require taking the wheels off or contacting the frame. I also really like how easy it is to move back and forth from my van's roof rack to the factory rails on my Outback. The one downside is it's not helping the car's aerodynamics as it has a larger frontal area than most roof racks and keeps the bike higher up with the wheels staying on.
