Description

Chuck donut.

WTB's Ranger TCS Light Tire is a big, cushy donut for your plus-sized wagon wheel hoops. It features medium-spaced lugs that take advantage of the tire's girth by adding traction as the tire floats over loose terrain. The Dual DNA compound further specializes the shoulders and center strip by putting softer rubber on the former and lining the latter with a harder durometer material that reduces rolling resistance when you're not cornering or wallowing in inches-deep muck or snow. The Ranger's plus-sized body is designed to keep that soft shoulder compound where it belongs—on the shoulders—even when mounted on wide, plus-sized rims.

  • A huge, cushy wagon wheel donut for plus-sized rims
  • Knobs spaced for traction on wet or dry surfaces
  • Two different durometers of rubber target grip and speed
  • Shoulder knobs grab while center knobs propel

Great Tire

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I had no issue putting these on my rims, so must be a case by case issue (although there is a lengthy review on bikepacking.com that mentions this problem). Tire performs really well and all in all is pretty light with minimal rolling resistance for a 3.0 tire. Also FWIW I am running this in the front of a Surly Ogre. Despite clearances claimed at 2.5, a 3.0 will fit up front and a 2.8 in the back.

tight rim fit

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These 29er x 3.0 tires are tough and work well. They're worth 4.5 stars but they are exceedingly difficult to get on and off the rims. I put them on wtb scraper 45mm rims. If you've got rims that fit well with these tires they would be good. I had to change to a different brand tire to insure I can remove them and put a tube in when I get a flat. I ran them both with and without tubes.
