Why We Like The Why Wayward V2 Frame

The Why Wayward V2 Frame is handbuilt for the backcountry adventure in all of us. The bike-packing frame is royally equipped to handle the biggest bike-packing adventures and bucket list challenges. We’re already planning our trip through the colorado trail, as the V2 has been specifically designed for rough and rowdy multiple-day rides. Rider owned and operated, Why cycles use the highest quality titanium tubing to hand-engineer unique and interesting design qualities. The Wayward is no different, and rider input helped make important changes in the 2nd version of the frame.

This premier frame is designed around a 120mm fork, burly enough for daily trail use but light enough for all-day adventures. Titanium is naturally corrosion-resistant, meaning that rain or shine this frame will be absolutely fine out on never-ending dirt ribbons. A 67° head-tube angle is built with modern design and riding in mind, slack enough to tackle some rough terrain without feeling like a lumbering machine. This hardtail is supported by a compliant rear-end that soaks up chunder, and room for 29x3.0in tires means we’re running rubber wide enough to feel like we’ve got an actual suspension. The new Wayward offers room and internal routing for a dropper post, with Why Cycles lowering the top-tube to allow for a longer dropper post to be fitted.

Built for adventuring, this frame has plenty of frame bosses for all our mountain adventures. We’re personally leaving room for a flask, as the triangle has enough room for 3 large water bottles on its own. Sliding dropouts mean we can make this bike single-speed, and we shudder at the thought of cluttering the frame up with rear derailleur componentry. The threaded bottom bracket is an appreciated touch as well, allowing us to fix a BB that eliminates creaking or play. We’re beyond excited to build up this bike in our own vision, whether that’s playing around on the crest of the mountains, or huge adventures on the pony express road.
