Great Bike Computer

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Great bike computer and I've recently paired it with a Wahoo heart rate monitor and works great. However, this one I ordered from Backcountry was for my wife and I ordered mine from Moosejaw. Moosejaw shipped my device in a well branded box with thank you cards via UPS, arrived in perfect condition. Backcountry shipped in a plain cardboard box with nothing but a shipping label via USPS. Needless to say, the USPS arrived days later (USPS delivered days late) and the box looked like it had been washed and dragged down the street. This is the second box I've received in terrible condition from Backcountry and I am not happy about my premium equipment purchases from Backcountry. Very disappointing from a customer perspective when compared to the competition. This will be my last order from Backcountry.

Useful Device, Needs Updating

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've had a Bolt for several years now and use it every ride, across several bikes. I track my rides with it, automatically uploading to Strava and Ride With GPS and I frequently plan routes on RWGPS and then access them on the Bolt. The turn by turn directions that show up on these routes work well. The overall effectiveness as a wireless, GPS enabled, bike computer is pretty good. Cons: Wahoo updates the software almost weekly and each of these updates requires unpairing my phone from the Bolt and reconnecting, a real PITA. The tiny black and white display is primitive by today's standards. Battery life is not great, almost insufficient for real long distance riding. The map page won't zoom out enough to be useful for navigation, basically it serves for seeing the next turn or two. I often pass unfamiliar roads and I'd like to be able to zoom out and see where they connect up. I know Wahoo makes a newer unit, but the upgrades seem pretty weak and frankly the price is appalling. Considering switching back to Garmin.

If you don't have the back light on all the time (which you don't need unless you are night riding) a single charge usually lasts me 15-20 hours, plenty for any of my rides. Agree it isn't great for navigation but sufficient for most rides unless I have no idea where I am- but even then it is sufficient. If your priority is navigation, get the bigger version (Roam) or a big Garmin. Note that this is the smallest unit (and lightest) so the screen size is necessarily smaller/lighter but that is precisely why to purchase it. Price for this is pretty good compared to most other similar products. Seamlessly works with Strava and cell phone. Great unit for what it is billed to do.

After using Wahoo Bolt for a few months and I have found it to be an impressive reliable piece of equipment displaying and recording all the information given by my power meter, heart rate monitor and cadence/rpm sensors while also giving pretty accurate speed and elevation measurements throughout my rides. The set up is straight forward all you have to do is download the wahoo ELEMNT app and follow the given instructions. For maps/routes you may use the ELEMNT app, RideWithGps app, Strava and other apps to upload created routes to the ELEMNT Bolt but keep in mind that although usable the gps navigation is not the Bolt’s strongest feature. If GPS navigation is what you’re looking for I strongly suggest you to take another route towards a more proficient equipment as the edge 830 or use your cellphone.

Given that the unit has a GPS chip, I assume that it reads out current speed based on that data. Why would I need to purchase the optional speed sensor? Is the GPS speed data glitchy?

Perfect On-Bike Functionality

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have had my BOLT for quite some time and ridden thousands of miles with it. I have very few complaints. The reason I say that it has perfect “on-bike” functionality is because it has great features and functionality, but you don’t use or access all of them while riding. You access it through the companion app. I prefer this setup to one where most of the functionality is in the unit itself. This way, the complicated configuring is done off the bike. I am able to exactly plan a route via a third party app like ridewithgps (the best free app for getting turn-by-turn on a Wahoo in my opinion), and have it uploaded for the ride. I also like that reconfiguring the screens is done by the app, so that I can set them the way that I want and not mess them up during a ride. The daytime visibility can be poor at times, but in practice I’ve found this to be very rare.

Hello, are this the Part Number WFCC3 ???
