With the KICKR Climb, Wahoo eliminates the penultimate barrier for cyclists looking to simulating outdoor riding while training indoors: the feeling of tilt on a climbing grade. The ultimate barrier is, of course, actually being outside, but when weather or time constraints make that impossible, the KICKR Climb pairs with Wahoo's KICKR and KICKR Snap trainers to recreate a climbing experience that automatically matches your bike's tilt to the virtual grade being simulated by the trainer in conjunction with your training program.

At first blush, this may appear to be an unnecessary feature; however, think about what it feels like to pedal up a serious climb. Sliding back in the saddle, engaging as much of your climbing engine as possible—that's an awkward proposal when your bike stays level even while your trainer's resistance ramps up to match the virtual training course or hill repeat program you're tackling. By physically tilting you and your machine, the KICKR Climb lets you engage your climbing muscles, making those smart trainer workouts that much more effective and producing better results for when you can finally get back out on the road again.

No tech product is complete without an exhaustive note on compatibility, and here's ours for the KICKR Climb: The climb works only with the latest (2017 or later) versions of the KICKR (the one with thru-axle compatibility) and the KICKR Snap smart trainers. It's compatible with third party training apps, including Zwift and TrainerRoad, and it includes adapters for quick-release skewers as well as 12 x 100mm, 15 x 100mm, and 15 x 110mm thru-axles, so disc brake road machines and even Boost axle mountain bikes aren't omitted from the party. Finally, if you'd rather skip the app and dictate your own gradient, an included remote lets you bypass the auto adjust feature and dial the tilt yourself.

Worth it

Worth it if you need to be engaged while riding a trainer, less boring. Gives me a reason to force myself to climb or select a hilly course on zwift! Tend to climb more because I hate to remind myself of how much I paid for it. lol Works perfectly on zwift! Love the rolling fast hills now, motivates me to climb

Game changer

Love my kickr, the climb enhances the experience significantly. I’m only using Zwift now, so I couldn’t test it with trainer road or FulGaz. Very responsive and makes the rides very real

Relieves trainer boredom

Is this thing necessary? No. Is it worth the cost? That’s your call, although it can now be found discounted. It makes my indoor training a bit less mind-numbing as it responds well to the elevation changes in Zwift and allows some changing pressure points on your sit bones. It is fairly stable when standing and pedaling, but seems to accentuate creaking noises on my older bike’s bottom bracket. It itself makes some creaking noises also when standing and pedaling hard too. I enjoy using as it makes my sessions on the trainer more tolerable. If you can’t get outdoors, it’s a nice accessory to use with your Kickr.

One of the big arguments against indoor training is that you can’t train the same muscles that you train when you’re riding in the real world. In the climb, Wahoo has created something that solves at least part of that problem. The climb is a great device that will easily pair with the Kickr to allow you to train those climbing muscles that seem to never get the attention they deserve during the offseason. It has a nice extendable cord that will allow you to attach it to your handlebars and easily change your elevation during workouts manually. Additionally, it will work with certain rides in apps like Sufferfest to automatically adjust your elevation, helping you really simulate real world workouts. If you’re considering getting one of these, I highly recommend it. It really will change the way you train indoors.

Does Your Trainer Even Lift?

Coming from someone who is relatively new to the indoor trainer game I initially thought the Climb was a total gimmick. After using it I have to say, it's pretty cool.

Combined with a kickr and Zwift the Climb really takes your ride to another level (pun intended.) It goes a long way towards making your training ride feel natural.

Do you need it? Probably not, but would you like it and enjoy it if you had it? Definitely.

Goin up..... and down!

This is pretty cool! It really makes a difference on those long training rides. Just a little something to switch up the feel and angle and it really breaks up the monotony of being on the trainer for an extended amount of time.

I do feel like the adjustable angles allow me to lean into some of the climbs better than I can on any other trainer. Am I completely sold on this as something that will give you an advantage? Probably not... But is it fun? Hell yea!

When you pair the KICKR Climb with the KICKR Headwind and are watching yourself on Zwift, this really makes for an exciting training ride in your boring basement.

Worth it for $600

$600 just to move the front of your bike up and down? Sounds ridiculous. But if you can get over the price (it's big downside) you'll really like the Kickr Climb.

Training is already a grind, even with Zwift doing a decent job of keeping us mentally stimulated but with bike just sitting flat it doesn't feel at all like riding outdoors. With the Climb it still doesn't, but helps a lot. Hit that Zwift climb and feel the bike slow as the front raises, close your eyes and pretend you're LeMond racing with Hinault up the Alpe d'Huez with the crowd loud around you, or take the descent and feel the nose drop as you spin out in the big ring (with the wind in your hair if you've got the Headwind Fan) and tell me you're not having even a little bit of fun riding indoors.

Great Add On

The Climb does exactly what is advertised. Easy to use, and easy to get the bike on and off. Synced perfectly with the Wahoo app in 5 seconds, and worked flawlessly during my training ride.

The added gradient changes during a Zwift session, or Sufferfest video makes riding the trainer just a bit closer to the feel or riding outside. You will get the change of position on the bike, that works slightly different muscle groups than if you were riding on the flat. In addition in provides more distraction from the fact that you are indeed in the basement, instead of outside enjoying the weather. If you are someone that takes your training seriously and you want the most accurate training feel as possible this is the way to go.

I use the climb with the kickr power, and no zwift, just me and my thoughts. First of all yes is works, and it works great. It's surprising that the simulation would provide a usable feel. But the emulation is something that does give a more real world feel to riding your go nowhere bike and anything to make it more realistic is great. I am only frustrated by stationary trainers in general because I can't stand up in the way that I would outside. You can stand but have to be a little careful and no motion of course. But seated climbing is a definite nicer feel over a wheel in a block. Overall a thumbs op on the climb.

Great Idea with a Few Drawbacks

Let's agree on one thing: nobody "loves" riding the trainer. It serves a means to an end, but that does mean it has to be miserable. Adding a Kickr Climb to your Wahoo training ecosystem will noticeably improve your trainer experience with a better simulation of actual riding. With that said, there are a few scenarios where the Kickr Climb isn't very useful. If you train with ERG mode, the trainer does not react to the inputs on Zwift. Elevation grades, drafting boosts and any other extras that can be found in Watopia will not affect the Kickr and therefore the Kickr Climb. You can manually adjust the gradient with the bar-mounted remote, but that can be easily forgotten when you're in the middle of a hard effort. In spite of this minor drawback, the remainder of your rides and races on Zwift (or any other software) will be a blast with the Kickr ecosystem in full control.

Brilliant idea: a must have

Ok: the CLIMB is expensive, but worth the investment for indoor “riding”.

The CLIMB really makes hills, climbs, and changes in elevation in Zwift feel like a real climb. The added front end stability and ability to turn the front end a bit is much better than a wheel block, and it never needs air!

The Climb is amazing!

The Climb totally makes the whole "smart trainer" experience. I am using it with the Kickr Core and using Zwift and Rouvy. I can truly train hills because i am legitimately going uphill. Same gradients, same seat position adjustments, same muscles - minus the freezing temps. Depending on the software, I can even get the scenery for the most part. The climb responds exactly to the changes of gradient in the program so the tension increases in the rear at the same time the climb lifts or lowers (descents) the front end of my bike.


    I did NOT use it synced to Zwift so am not commenting on that feature. And NOTE, because it makes the bike pivot at the rear drop-outs, using it on anything other than 2017 or later Kickr risks serious bike damage.
    Seems very well made and even without Zwift or similar usage, it is really, really, nice to be able to mimic hill inclines without getting off the bike and adjusting a front wheel block. $600 is a lot, but if you have a Kickr (for compatibility), I think this is a game-changer for indoor riding.
