Train away.

We're going to let you in on a little secret: Just like us, the professional riders of the world often train on clincher tires. And here you probably thought those boys only rolled on the most exquisite tubulars for all of their riding. Pros use clinchers for the same reasons we do—changing flats is less of an ordeal and durable rubber takes precedence over weight when you're logging big miles. Vittoria knows the importance of arming yourself with dependable tires, which is why it continues to provide riders of all levels with its respected Zaffiro line.

The Zaffiro Pro is a hard-wearing, reliable tire constructed out of Vittoria's Aramid Endura compound. It's built to roll fast, far, and without incident. The nylon Puncture Resistant Belt (PRB) found in Vittoria’s higher-tier rubber, like the Open Corsa and the Rubino, is also used here. It incorporates Vittoria's Aqua-Flow tread, with deeper grooves in the middle and shallower shoulders, meaning you'll get excellent cornering in both wet and dry conditions. And since it's a 60 TPI tire, the overall cost is reasonably low for the high quality you receive.

  • Reliable tire for daily commutes and training miles
  • 60 TPI casing makes it a low-cost training option
  • Aramid Endura compound for hard-wearing reliability
  • Aqua-Flow tread for cornering grip in dry and wet
  • Nylon Puncture Resistant Belt prevents flats

Budget Tires

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ride quality seems good so far; they feel glued to the road and they corner well. They aren't particularly thick and the rubber is soft, but they do have some sort of puncture resistant strip and I haven't had any flats so far. I mostly use my road bike for commuting and zipping around town, which tends to involve a lot of rough roads, sidewalks, alleys, train track crossings, and other surfaces that are hell on tires. I find the ride quality on thick puncture-proof tires to be pretty awful, so I prefer to use cheap training tires like this and just replace them when they get torn up. I don't expect these to be a particularly long lasting tire but they were cheap enough that I won't be upset if they're shredded after a few months of city riding.
