Corsa Control G Plus Tire

Those that have been following professional cycling for a while will be quite familiar with the trademark green striped Vittoria Pavé tubulars called upon by professional teams to conquer the harshest roads, we use that term lightly, and conditions encountered during the northern spring classics. Tubular tires enjoy a great lore in cycling where gluing techniques, tire pressures, and even aging them in a cellar like a fine wine to harden up the rubber for the punishing stones are generally heavily guarded secrets tucked away in the annals of a mechanic's notebook somewhere in the service course. Perhaps no other road race's result is dictated by luck quite like Paris-Roubaix. This is the race that little boys dream of winning and when they become men, hardened by the training in absolutely horrible conditions over shit covered roads and the rigors of racing in the professional peloton, its mandatory that they have the right material if they want to raise the coveted cobblestone trophy above their head at the end of the day. So understandably we were a little bit miffed and saddened when we noticed a disappearance of the much-lauded Pavé tubs and knew Vittoria must have something up its sleeves. After all, it had poured a lot of development and effort into its Graphene technology so surely a worthy successor was on the way. We’re happy to announce that yes, it's here, the Corsa Control G Plus Tire in Tubular is the tire for when the hard men and women come out to play, and any dye in the wool classics fanatic should be hoarding these tubulars so you can enjoy a pro-level ride quality and durability on your own heroic rides.

It was maybe around 2015 when we noticed an absence of the tell-tale green Pavé tires. So important is Roubaix, that many teams forego tire sponsorship obligations and you'll notice Dugast and FMB treads glued up on wheels and distributed to mechanics standing in crux 5-star sectors like the Trouée d'Arenberg, Mons-en-Pévèle, and Le Carrefour de l’Arbre, and amongst the team cars in the caravan following the race. The only thing we got from the Vittoria sponsored teams was a prototype hot patch on the gumwalls of the 28 and 30mm wide tires. Suspension has been tried, sometimes to success and sometimes to failure over the years, and the only proven damping has come from wider tires run at lower pressure. The old adage "to finish first, you must first finish" is certainly never lost at Roubaix and in an effort to prevent anything from piercing the latex inner tube, Vittoria employs a PRB 2.0 breaker under the tread. The tread itself consists of 4 compounds allowing for separate base and surface compounds, in both the center and side areas of the tread. Each compound has its own property, including the revolutionary G+ Isotech, which allows each compound to focus on speed, grip, durability, and puncture protection. Of course, the only way to truly test the merits of these tires is to put them into action. Go back and study Greg Van Avermaet's 2017 Paris Roubaix bike. The tubulars that took him to victory were pre-production 30mm Corsa Controls

The Corsa Control G Plus Tubular uses Vittoria's best casing, the reinforced and handstitched 320 TPI Corespun-K. The higher TPI brings the benefit of lower weight and it's a polyester/cotton blend with 20% Kevlar for added puncture protection and strength. This is what gives it the supremely comfortable ride qualities and low rolling resistance that we know it for as well as the toughness to handle any road surface. We love this peace of mind when humming along chipseal back roads and finding alternate routes, some paved some not, in an effort to mix up a typical training ride. The Corsa Control Tubulars are available in a Black/Black colorway or the Euro-hotness of gum walls.

We offer these tubulars in 3 widths: The 25mm version should fit most bikes without rubbing on the brake calipers, fork, stays, etc. The wider options of the 28 and 30mm won't fit on every bike. Our opinion is to run the largest ones your bike allows. You may want to try a 28 or 30mm clincher tire first to check for clearance, but be aware that your rim's internal width can greatly affect the tire's width. Gravel, 'cross, and many road disc endurance bikes should clear and if they happen to fit your bike, you'll be treated with a ride so fine, it might bring a tear to your eye.
