S3 Lite Tire - Tubular

It’s one thing to make claims about a tire that cannot be objectively verified. But with their S3 Lite Tubular Tire, Tufo guarantees that each one will weigh less than 215 grams. Get a pair, and put them on the scale. We’d go so far as to make claims about ride quality and ease of installation. You’ll have to trust us on those two, but we’re happy to explain.

Tufo builds their tubular tires without a stitched seam underneath the base tape. This means that there is no clunky seam to complicate centering the tire during installation, and it guarantees better glue adhesion. And at 45mph, doesn’t that make good sense? Sure, we know that good tubular rims have a v-shaped tire bed, but they’re not all the same shape, and we’ve seen some ugly mismatches between tire and rim. The Tufo design works perfectly on everybody’s rims. And we know that a centered, straight tire rides better and gives optimal performance. That makes good sense too.

The 120 tpi casing is built with a two puncture-resistant layers underneath the tread to resist damage from typical road trash – glass, metal bits, and sharp gravel. The traditional file tread may not be cause for excitement, but know that the rubber compound uses activated silica to increase the traction significantly in wet or dry conditions. And because it’s a tubular, you have the ability to inflate these to quite high pressures (115-220psi) to give you minimal rolling resistance.
