A worthy successor.
Truvativ's Descendant line of cranksets have been quietly tucked away on the flashy builds of SRAM's pro riders for years now, and they've earned themselves a pretty devoted following amongst the public more recently for their rugged construction and palatable price tag. To bring the Descendant line into 2017 this year, parent company SRAM made a few choice upgrades to aesthetics and gave the Descendant 11-Speed GXP Direct Mount Crankset Boost the gift of its chain-grabbing X-SYNC chainrings; in our opinion, making a good thing even better.
SRAM constructs the Descendent crankset with 7000-series aluminum for its ability to remain light and impressively stiff when called upon, keeping the walls solid throughout the entire design rather than compromising structural integrity to save weight with a hollow construction. The Descendant has earned praise already for its low weight despite this decision, and on this version, the direct mount ring eliminates more bulk, letting the clean updated aesthetics of the crank be showcased uninterrupted.
As you confidently crush trails that used to leave you clinging white-knuckled to the bars, the Descendant's X-SYNC 32t chainring will be latched onto your chain, its commendable squared-off teeth expertly guiding it around and around whether the day features dusty singletrack or mud of unknown depths. Finally, the design gives you the freedom to add a bash guard to protect your chainring if you'd like, and it's compatible with any SRAM 1x drivetrain.
