Lets not get carried away with over ambitious expectations. The Troy Lee 5205 wrist brace provides additional support, mainly extension & flexion. If that might help you give it a try. I have both the Shock Doctor 5205 (Troy Lee version) & the 822 which is a single strap version. The 5205 is the three strap big brother of the 822 and provides excellent support for those who need it at that level. If you need more support than that look elsewhere. 3point-products makes an excellent wrist brace that is like a removable cast but is quite a bit bulkier but will stabilize your wrist in all directions. Would I personally ride with it NO. Is the shock doctor 5305 a worthy addition to my Mtn biking YES. Both the 5205 & 822 are quality made in my humble opinion and I switch between the two depending on what Im up too. They both have two removable plastic stiffeners that help provide support, they can be removed independently, made mostly out of neoprene with velcro fasteners to keep it in place. The quality seems reasonably good and should last a while under normal use?? Will it eventually wear out,œ yes of course,. I would expect to get a year or two out of it and I ride 3 to 4 days a week all Summer long. Ive had both of mine for over 4 months now and they seem to be holding up well, they get fairly sweetie so I hand wash them after 5-6 rides. Stitching is holding up and no signs of failure or issues as of yet. I completely satisfied with my purchase. Is this brace perfect ??? probably not! Who™s to judge better than yourself, if you receive it and it seems to meet your expectations then give it a shot if it doesn€™t return it and quit whining and continue your quest. For hell sakes if you really have a problem with the design call Shock Doctor and summit you engineering application to R & D and get busy, I’ll be the first in-line to give it a try and tell you what I think. Back story if you really care: Ive been biking my entire life, BMX in the 70s to my bad ass Ibis Ripely of today and mostly everything in between. Ive suffered broken wrists, sprains, and recently diagnosed with stage III SLAC of both wrist joints, look it up. Its another fancy name for severe arthritis and eventual joint failure. I’ll eventually need surgery down the road but for now these braces are helping me stay on my bike until that eventual reality. Good luck with your search and keep on peddling !!!!

For $35 I was expecting a lot more. There is only support on the top of the brace, which is a few plastic stringers that don't track the wrist well. When extending the wrist, the top of the brace shifts laterally rather than staying center. The other issue is that I was able to get nearly full range of motion with this brace. This is what happens when R&D skips the extensive testing and prototype phases and goes from CAD model to consumer. Maybe this is meant for somebody with very mild wrist issues but I have pretty messed up wrists from years and years of abuse.

If you are riding in the bike park alot, there is good chance you are getting hand and wrist discomfort. I am riding a full DH bike with a pair of RevGrips installed but the discomfort is still there. Now I am riding with these both wrists and dont think I would ride the bike park without some nice wrist support like this ever again. There are 4 little plastic struts in the back of these. They only provide extension support since that is the force your wrists are taking riding. When I first got them, I thought they were duds. The plastic struts are straight but your wrist needs a slight extension for natural grip on the bars. I had the bright idea to put a bend in them and now they are perfect. At first I was using 2 struts, then 3 now back to the full 4 which is what they came with. These are great for ride support. As far as impact protection, I think they would help but I wouldnt consider them to be fully protective,

Simple and works great. Some discomfort across my palm where your thumb goes through the brace after ~3 hours of wearing it - but overall pretty good for the cost. I bought a mobius brace for my other wrist which a broke mountain biking before - and this one works almost as well but for 1/3 the cost. Also this is not like a wrist brace you might wear roller blading - that can protect your palm and wrist from a big direct impact-i’ve tried wearing my roller blading wrist guard mountain biking and it just doesn’t work to hold on to the bars - this seems like a good balance.

As a former college volleyball player that now enjoys all the mountain sports - my wrists are absolute trash. The impact on them while riding really hasn't helped at all. So after chatting with my backcountry contact, I thought I would try these guys.. It's been two seasons and they really made an immediate difference! Definitely a smart purchase for me. I will say that my hands are pretty skinny and these are pretty tight so just be conscience of that when you order.

As others have noted, this isn't a guard, but a brace. So, this won't save anything in the event of a crash (maybe it'll give a small cloth buffer), but it will support your wrist over the miles and mitigate pain that way. I needed a little extra support following a surgery a few years back, and this is just perfect. Around 1000 miles on it so far and it's held up perfectly well, can use with or without a glove (but not under a glove unless your glove is huge)

I guess this is for folks who have wrist problems and need a brace (which is consistent with the reviews). I thought I was buying a guard that would protect my wrist in the event my hand hit the ground first in a 'get off.' All of the protection, if you can call it that, is on the back of your hand. Otherwise, its a brace. So, back it goes.

Got this to keep things more immobile when healing from wrist surgery. The triple velcro has been very strong and can be dialed to a looser supportive feel or a tight grip of death. I have not fallen on this, but it's comfy enough that I'll wear it every ride until the arm's back to normal. For the price/value/fit, this thing is perfect!

I have a reoccurring wrist sprain that seems to never go away. I ordered this to help immobilize my wrist through small bumps while riding and this definitely helps. I have not gone down with this on, but i would imagine it would absolutely do its job. The one thing i would recommend is wearing gloves under, the part that goes in between thumb and pointer finger can rub harshly. I ordered a med, the large may have fit better to put over any bulky glove but the med is great with a thin glove. I have a fairly skinny wrist and large hands. im roughly 170 and 6'1''.

I originally purchased this brace after breaking my left wrist in a race about a year ago. Once the cast was off I used it for the majority of the summer to protect my wrist and provide a little protection as my strength returned. I couldn't have been more stoked on the fit and ergonomics of this thing! It worked well with pretty much every glove I wore, and didn't feel uncomfortable holding the handlebars. They do take time to get used to as you lose some range of motion, but well worth it! Loved it so much I purchased a Right brace as well in the event i ever need it or a buddy does.

I broke my wrist at Whistler. It healed incorrectly and was hurting 6-9 months. I started riding 3 months after my break and wore this. I couldn't feel a thing. It was great! Oh and I ride pretty aggressive down hill, for reference.

this is basically a snug wrist supporter. it will not offer protection on a significant level. it is a wrap with two thin plastic pieces on the back side of the hand. if you are trying to keep your wrist wrapped to support it in the case of carpal tunnel or recovery from an issue, it is great for the job. if you are trying to protect your wrist from fractures or other significant injuries, get another product.

After a severe wrist break - these wrist guards (got them for both wrists) serve as great support and protection for DH and Enduro racing. Won't ride without them. Ever. Worth every penny.

I've been battling ligament and tendon issues in my left wrist since spraining it badly mountain biking. The pain was severe, and road biking hand position was especially painful. I took a week off (which I had done before but to no avail) and bought this left wrist brace, then tested it out on a short road ride, a long mountain bike ride, and a long road ride. The bracing keeps my wrist from flexing into painful positions, and I'm literally pain free so far. As pictured in another review, this fits great over any glove, or you can wear it alone. Highly recommended to prevent wrist injury or in my case to stabilize while healing from one. The bracing does change your natural hand position just a bit, as you might expect, but I got used to it quickly and it's a sacrifice worth making in my case. I might buy one for the right wrist just as a preventive measure.

If you'd messed up your wrist in a wreck or just need additional support, look no further than the WS 5205 from Troy Lee Designs and Shock Doctor. This support is beyond comfortable with or without a glove underneath, and unbelievably supportive. There is no comparison to other wrist guards/supports in the same price range.
