Raid Knee Guard
When you and your enduro rig head out to spend a day rallying singletrack, the last thing you want to worry about is bulky pads getting in the way of your ride. Troy Lee Designs makes the Raid Knee Guards with a breathable, flexible neoprene and mesh construction that houses tough padding to keep your knees from getting torn up by the trails. An abrasion-resistant cover equips the Raid to handle brushes with trail furniture without complaint, while a polyurethane calf band and silicone gripper keep the whole piece securely in place so you can focus on dicing your next line rather than babysitting ill-fitting gear.
- Knee armor for mountain bike rowdiness
- Calf band and gripper keep the protection in place
- Flexible sleeve doesn't impede pedaling or body English

I've never had knee pads before. I have pretty knobby knees, so I thought there was no way these were going to be comfortable. I'm really impressed with the design that pads all around your knee and can deal with it changing shape through the pedal stroke. There is a sleeve inside made of stretch material that keeps them snug and keeps you from slapping the pad with your kneecap. I was able to do 10 miles/2000 vertical on my first ride with just a little minimal chafe on the back/side on a tendon, but this was before I realized that you can just put them around your ankles for the climbs. Also I think they will conform a little like jeans the more you use them. You definitely have to get the fit right, which I did, and it was true to the sizing chart. Haven't had a hard impact on them yet but they feel pretty solid to me.

Does this come with one guard or two? Is this a set for both knees?

Comfy on 30mi XC ride
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
No big crashes, but these are comfortable enough to wear on every ride. Wore them for four hours nonstop and forgot they were on. Far and away better than the POC ones I tried. They don't slide down. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

Great pads.

They are very protective. A little hard to pedal in, but that is the trade off of a solid pad.

I absolutely love these knee pads. The D3O technology has saved my bones in more ways than one. Whether slamming knee on a rock while out on the trail or some dude wailing on my elbow with a lacrosse stick, my D3O padding keeps me going strong. Along with having great protection, the Raid knee guards are very comfortable and stay up while pedaling. I haven't had to readjust them on a single ride yet. If you are looking a knee pad that is good to climb in, but still holds up when things get pretty rowdy, these are the way to go.

Comfortable and don't slide down
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I got these because my old knee pads had the unfortunate habit of sliding down whenever I really needed them. These had good ratings here and and on some bike specific sites, so I pulled the trigger. They have performed great. I have had a couple of spills with them on and the only way I knew I hit my knee is the scuffs on the outer material. They didn't shift or slide at all in the wrecks. They are comfortable to climb with and not too hot. I haven't really noticed them when I climb. They have performed so well that I think I am going to get the matching elbow pads because as I type this I have a bruised and bloody elbow from my last fall.

My leg is 17 in. above knee and 15 below knee. Looks like small is the right size but is that the xs/s or m/l?

Hey Matt! So, as far as sizing goes, I think you are going to be most comfortable in the Xs/S size! That should be perfect for you, I think. If you have any questions, let me know for sure! I would love to help. zricklefs@backcountry.com

Comfier than all of the other pads
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
The Raid knee guards are comfier than all of the other knee pads I have tried on and have owned. They did not irritate the back of my legs like previous pads when pedaling. Thus I will wear them on both the uphill and downhill. Would highly recommend!

These pads fit extremely well and are incredibly comfortable. It sounds kind of cliche, but I really don't realize I have them on most of the time when I am wearing them. They are very breathable, and they don't interfere with riding, whether it is downhill or climbing. I have also never had an issue with them sliding up or down on my legs. I almost went over the bars today, and I bashed my knee HARD against my frame and I did not feel a thing. Definitely an awesome product.

Lightweight
- Familiarity:

Compared to my POC VPD 2.0 knee guards, the TLD Raid knee guards are really light. After putting the TLD Raid knee guards on, my first impression was "heat", as in they are warm. For my initial test ride, I did a 1.5 hour ride, and an hour into my ride I started feeling rubbing on the inside edge of my left knee cap. When I got home, I looked on the inside of the knee cups, and there is a raised seam that runs all the way across the knee cup on both knee guards. Seriously?!! The chaffing did not break the skin, though. I'll give them a few more rides before I determine whether to return them. Now, I've had five additional rides using the knee guards, and I have not experienced the rubbing problem anymore. I've been paying more attention when I put on the knee guards so that the knee cup is centered laterally over my knee, and that seems to have solved the chaffing problem. By the way, these are symmetrical knee guards: there is no way to tell which is the left or right knee guard. I wore the knee guards so that the straps wrapped to the outside (away from the center line of my bike), like my other knee guards. I was on the small end of the measurements for the XL/XXL size, so I was worried that the knee guards were going to be too big, but that was not the case. Perfect fit. I rode in about 75 degree temperatures, and despite my initial impressions, I didn't notice the TLD Raid knee guards being excessively hot while I was riding. I just checked my POC knee guards, and surprisingly they have a seam in the exact same place as the TLD knee guards, but here's the difference: the POC knee guards use a flat seam, while the TLD knee guards use a raised seam. Image of the seam running across the TLD Raid knee cup:

Actually they are labelled Left and Right on the inside top cuff.

Thanks Allen M.! That works on the elbow guards as well, which don't have a strap, so I was randomly putting them on my arms.

I have gone down many times with these on and they have saved my every time. Super lightweight you can't even feel them when you're riding. I love the silcone strip really helps them stay in place.

In name only
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I was impressed during Initial fit tests and even the first few rides with the comfort of these pads. Since the TLD Raid knee pads cover more of your leg, they cause you to sweet more. That extra sweat soaks into the lower portion of the knee pads and weights them down. Since there is only on strip on silicone at the top they start to fall down. I wanted to like them, but after fighting falling pads all the way down a long rocky decent in the Arizona sun had me side lining these pads. I hope they work in cool weather.

These pads have been great so far. They stay in place through the ride on the bike park. Don't seem too hot and I forget I have them on. I would highly recommend

Bomber Pads
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These pads are super burly while also being very lightweight and almost unnoticeable when riding. I had a pretty hard crash to my knees with these on and came away with out a single scratch and the pads stayed in place. I would highly recommend these for DH and lift assisted riding.

Confidence in a Comfortable Package
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:
- True to size
These have been my go-to knee pads for lift assisted riding this season. The reason I grab these among the handful of other pads I have is primarily due to the comfort they provide and I have confidence in the protection they provide. TLD really nailed the fit of these pads to make them non-restrictive and seemingly disappear on your legs. Adding to the comfort, the D3O internals offer a ton of security in a lightweight package that is flexible. Coming from the T-Bone pads, these offer just a bit more shin protection as well. You won't regret getting these!

Great protection with mobility to pedal
- Familiarity:

I have resisted wearing pads until I got the TLD Raid. Very comfortable in a lower profile design with sufficient protection. They remain secure on the knees when pedaling hard without strangling your leg. Excellent product!
