A2 MIPS Helmet

Everyday laps at your local trail network call for protection that's reliable day in and day out, so it's good to have a friend like the Troy Lee Designs A2 MIPS Helmet ready at hand. Designed for the days when you're skipping lift access, the A2 offers the coverage you want for charging trails, but without over the top chin bars that are a bit of overkill when you're not at the jump park. Building on Troy Lee's reputation for hard-hitting gravity protection, the A2 transitions protection to lighter duty trails with massive venting, ample coverage, and MIPS technology to keep you cool under duress.

With 25% more ventilation than that found on TLD's venerable A1 helmet, the A2 MIPS promotes cooling airflow and encourages constant air movement across your dome. A removable, soft and plushy X-Static Pure Silver liner sits comfortably against your head, fending off the stink produced by bacteria and drying quickly to keep you cool. Not to ignore fit, the A2 MIPS helmet incorporates a three-position adjustable retention system for a custom, easily dialed fit.

  • Charge trails all day with this featherweight helmet
  • EPS and EPP foam absorb impact at high and low speed
  • Reduce rotational force in certain crashes with MIPS
  • Extended coverage at back and temples increases protection area
  • Large vents promote cooling airflow
  • Highly adjustable retention system dials in the fit
  • Visor fends off branches and glaring sun

    Awesome and stunning quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

When I wear it the first time Immediately I felt the meaning of quality.
I have other brands but this one the best helmet I’ve ever used.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

I ordered the XL/XXL Jet Gray which has blue straps. Helmet fit is perfect and well vented but not what I paid the premium price on this design to get one that is only similar.

    Superb investment!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium/Large

Troy Lee Designs A2 MIPS helmet is incredibly light and beautiful. I'm a guy that seeks quality, design, and functionality in just about everything I invest in. This helmet is no exception. I am pleasantly pleased with investing in Troy Lee Designs products. I feel like a professional every time out on my MTB.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

This helmet fits! I've been wearing a fox the past 6 years and really liked them. This just fits perfectly, so comfortable! Those big vents are good and bad, great venting big bug catchers. I'll deal with the occasional fly in my helmet, it's the only time I noticed I was wearing one!

    Odd fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This helmet seems to be fairly shallow such that it sits high on your head. I bought an A2 Jet size S for my son (11) and the ear straps cross over his ear. He tried on my TLD size M/L (albeit a different model) and although it seemed to come further down his head, it was clearly too big.

Unfortunately on the Jet, the only side strap adjustment appears to be where the chin strap attachment sits along a fixed path. You can't decide to move that attachment further down to sit below the ear. Maybe it's just his head, but I'd recommend trying on one in person before ordering.

    Great helmet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Been my go-to helmet for the last several years, tried a competitor the last 8 months or so but eventually returned to the A2. Hands down the most comfortable, best fitting and stylish half-shell helmet. Ventilation is better than the A1, but still could be improved though.

    Troy Lee Designs Customer Service

I bought an A2 helmet in March, wore it 3-4 times a week until two weeks ago. It worked as any high end piece of gear should. It fit really well, vented, and most importantly, protected my head.
Two weeks ago I crashed, broke the visor into three pieces and dented the shell. I was unhurt. Like I said before, I feel like any good helmet should do this.
What made my helmet stand out was Troy Lee's fantastic customer service. I did not have to mail the helmet back to them for 30% off a crash replacement, I only I had send pictures of the helmet with the straps cut off. My replacement was delivered in less than a week. In contrast my wife crashed her helmet, from another company, earlier this year and it took 6 weeks of emails and calls to get a replacement. It was frustrating, time consuming, and kept her off of the trail. Additionally we had to spend the shipping to mail the broken helmet back.
I was really impressed with the professionalism and service I received from TLD, as well as the great product. Thank you Troy Lee Designs!

      Great helmet except....

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small

Can't Properly adjust the straps that fit under the ears on one side of the helmet. The straps slides down around the neck instead of staying under the chin. No visor adjustment and helmet feels really stiff.
Otherwise, a solid helmet which makes one's head feel secure and safe and the silver color is pretty.

      Excellent Helmet

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Looking for a replacement helmet and tried on a dozen different brands. The A2 was a solid fit and feel. Construction feels durable and i liked that i felt it went on/around my head instead of on top of my head (if that makes sense). The padding is very nice - something that is lacking in a lot of other helmets. The retention system is easily accessible and provides a great fit and feel. Just rode with it on in Phoenix for the first time (8/10/19) and while it was hot out, the ventilation through the helmet was awesome. My only qualm with the helmet is the visor angle adjustment system. It is a loosen and tighten lock screw set up instead of a "push and adjust" multi-positional system. That being said, it works well, just doesn't allow for on the fly adjustment and i still happily give it 5 stars. If you are thinking about a new lid and willing to spend the coin on a higher tier model, the A2 is a great choice.

Do these fit on the large side or small side?
My head measures 58-58.4 depending how tight w measure tape, should I go with M/L or XL/XXl? for ref I can my POC octal X size M(54-60) is a good fit or snug with thin cap.

      Hey Marc,

Thank you for reaching out. I would recommend going with a M/L - range is from (57-59cm)

with the Boa tighten system, it should be a good fit on it's own or with a thin cap.

Great helmet, hotter than a road helmet

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits amazing, doesn't move around, and works well with my glasses. I am an avid road and mountain bike rider and have always used my road helmet for both bikes. When I moved to this new helmet for the mountain bike I immediately felt safer and knew that I was better protected by it does not breathe as well. It's a trade-off for better protection and one that I am willing to make.

      Awesome Helmet

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Great fit and feel, doesn't move around. Awesome color selection.

      Best in Class Ventilation

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This helmet feels great and is one of the best ventilating lids I've ever worn. I've been through a myriad of POC and Smith helmets, and when it comes to all-day comfort, the A1 and A2 are top notch. I think other brands offer trail helmets that feel slightly more robust and "safe", but as a rider that doesn't try to land on my head too often, having a comfortable lid that I can push hard all day in is of paramount importance. With lots of color options to choose from, I think there's an A2 for just about everyone.

      Great Fit

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love this helmet, I switched over from a POC that I have used the last few seasons, I wish I would have made the jump earlier! This helmet breathes so much better than what I have been wearing. Feels very light on my head and I don't have any pressure points.

      Look Good, Ride Good

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

The helmet game is a crowded field, but certain models repeatedly make their way to the top year after year. In addition to having some of the best colorways, the A2 has one of the best fits for any mountain helmet I've tried. I have a larger head that is slightly more oblong than round and I have no issues with pressure points in a size XL/XXL.

With great coverage and excellent ventilation, you'll find yourself charging with confidence and comfort wherever your ride might take you.
