It doesn’t matter how many years are under your belt; squeezing a tire is no way to determine proper inflation pressure. Topeak's SmartGauge D2, however, is the proper solution to quantifying your pressures.
The gauge features Topeak's rotating SmartHead, meaning it'll work seamlessly with both Presta and Schrader valves without changing parts. The digital gauge reads up to 250 psi, so it can be used with suspension components as well as tires. Topeak's SmartGuage D2 can also be programmed to show pressure in psi, Bar, or kg/cm2.

Dead easy to use, accurate in typical road, mtb, 'cross pressure ranges. Good battery life, easy to read, works equally well on presta or schrader. I've got one I've been using for 5 years, battery typically goes at least a year and I check pressure almost daily. I had a second one I kept in my ride kit in my jersey that I dropped and broke the yellow selector tab on but that was a freak accident, replaced it with a new one straight away. Best one I've seen or used, highly recommended.

Larry H.It's quite accurate but for fat bike tires you are going to need a gauge designed for those pressures. It will read in the 4 psi range but I have my doubts about accuracy at that level.

Very easy to change between valve types and units of pressure to suit personal needs.Fits in the hand nicely. Head will swivel to allow access to different valve angles so you can see the readout but this feature presents some instability and will sometimes allow the head to flip off the valve. Recommended.

A great gizmo for any rider who travels. A great way to keep track of tire pressures. If you race, you need this. It it superior to its competition and can be used for a wide range of pressures.

This is an expensive gauge so I was expecting a lot. At first, I was disappointed. I was getting poor engagement with the valve, sporadic readings or no reading at all and losing lots of air from my MTB tires. I was about to return it but reread the instructions first -- "If it's difficult to engage the tire valve, slide the Presta/Schrader selector button back from side to side a few times to reset the function. 'Re-engage' the tire valve after gauge is reset." Presto! Problem solved. The gauge has worked great ever since and I can get exactly the pressure I want, very important for my MTB as I ride as low a pressure as I think I can get away with.

I got this because I wanted to get a good feel for how low i could consistently run my tire pressures. It's great. I think accuracy is probably pretty decent but more important is the consistency of result (which you can cross check with the old finger squeeze). My bike has presta valves and i found it better to adjust the gauge so that the inner part is slightly depressed relative to the default position - you can do this by switching to schrader mode, holding in the valve part with a pen or something and then switching back to presta. Sounds complicated but it isn't in reality, you'll get it when you see it. I check my pressures before every ride, running around 20 psi on a 29er (weight 150 lbs) - nice cush!
