I was wearing my Veloce glasses with clear lenses on a technical mountain biking ride north of Boston. I bungled a low-speed drop, landed the front wheel oddly, and went over the bars, as has happened a dozen or more times over the years. But this time, I face planted a rock pile, one of which happened to make it in between the chin bar and top of my full face helmet. I only realized it later that day when examining the glasses, after getting home from the hospital with 30 stitches and a broken nose, but the left lens took the full impact. The glasses frame actually cut my nose and forehead, leaving a much cleaner cut to close than a jagged rock. But the key thing is, the lens didn't shatter despite taking the full weight of my impact. If it had, I'm certain I would have lost my eye.
