Get out of town.

When Friday afternoon rolls around, all you can think about is packing up and getting on the road as fast as possible. Whether you're traveling to a big race or heading to a cabin in the mountains for a weekend of trail riding, you don't want to waste time wrestling with a bike rack before you leave. Thule's all-new T2 Pro 2 Bike Hitch Rack Add-On improves upon the high standards set by its predecessor, the T2 Pro, and now features an updated design that sits further away from your vehicle. Though it hasn't managed to shed any weight this time around, Thule does promise that the rack is more durable than ever as justification for the extra grams.

Offering easy one-handed operation, the rack now requires no tools for installation with Thule's AutoAttach system, and it was altered slightly to situate the bikes higher off the ground when the rack is in an extended position. Thule thoughtfully built cable locks into the arm of the rack, so they'll be impossible to lose or forget during your travels, and the system secures your mountain, road, or fat bike without frame contact, as long as you're running tires less than five inches wide. Once you get to your destination and take your bikes off the rack, Thule's HitchSwitch lever allows you to fold the rack up quickly so you can more easily access your trunk. Though the original T2 Pro carries only two bikes, this rack includes Thule's T2 Bike Add-On, which expands the rack to a four-bike capacity.

Utilitarian but heavy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So I have been using the add on for several seasons now and I love that my bikes never rub even when off road. The one downfall is that the rack is heavy to lift and the release is can be hard to reach. So I made a little leash for the lever which helps me with the long reach. As far as racks go this is top notch, but I may be looking to try a North Shore rack next time.

much improved

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This rack is primarily used on my wifes vehicle and the biggest complaint she has about the original T2 was how hard it was to raise and lower. The new handle grip system is the primary reason we upgraded.
