Why We Like The T1 Single Bike Hitch Rack

Plug Thule's trailer hitch mounted T1 Single Bike Hitch Rack into your receiver and enjoy the convenience of carrying your bike on the rear of the car. Never struggle to put a heavy bike on a high roofline and avoid the horrible bike to driveway/parking garage collision embarrassment. The rack secures your bike quickly, without frame contact, with a ratcheting arm eliminating the chance of damaging a carbon top tube with excessive pressure or scratches from bungees or straps. When not in use, the carrier easily folds up.

The rack comes sized for 2 and 1-1/4-inch trailer hitches, and you can secure the rack to the hitch receiver with the STL2 lock. Your bike is safe and secure to the rack with the integrated cable lock, so you can grab a post-ride burrito with the crew. The Transport T1 uses wheel-only locking so it easily handles mountain, downhill, fat bikes and ebikes with wheels ranging from 20 to 29-inches and up to 5-inch wide tires without adapters. Thule's Transport T1 is easily capable of handling bikes of up to 60lb.

Failed to hold my Mate X electric bike!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Almost lost my Mate X bike on the highway! The front tire holder is not deep enough and strong enough to hold a 60lbs fat tire bike!!! Front tire just kept slipping out of the sleeve. After about 15 miles I literally watched my bike flip backwards on the rack in the rear view mirror at 65mph on the highway. Thought that was it for the bike. Rear wheel strap and the locking cable on the rack prevented the bike from falling off the rack completely, but my fork got scratched pretty badly. Can't imagine what the driver behind me must have felt at that moment. Had to stop and readjust the bike 5 times after that during a 100 mile trip and felt like the bike can fall backwards at anytime! If you getting this rack to transport heavy electric fat tire bikes - stay away!

Perfect single bike rack.

I have a Jeep Wrangler and a 29r specialized MTB. Drove it 90 miles on highway up to 85 mph and on dirt roads with rocks and roots, at no point did this bike rack ever give the appearance it would fall off or that it would release the bike. I don’t know how anyone’s tire could fall out of the basket the way some reviews stated, which had me worried when I bought this, it’s practically impossible. The rack is light and easy to remove (which you’ll need to do if you have a Jeep). The bike fit like a glove and was very secure. I also added an 8 inch extender to get around my wheel, a must for Jeep owners. This is well built and very easy to set up, an easy recommendation.

Thule Single Bike Rack

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

It was a really straight forward process. Really easy to assemble. My little brother and I did it pretty quick! Built quality is awesome and such an awesome bike rack overall. No regrets! Comes with all assembly and the locks that come with it is a plus!

Nice design except for the front tire securing

Great design and product except for the front tire basket. Despite securing the bike correctly, had my front tire jump out and hence handle twisting and falling towards my vehicle after hitting a small bump. This could have easily been the end of my custom road bike. Not sure if I want to take another chance with this rack.

Questionable build quality

Rack overall is nice and performs as a mid range carrier, acceptably so. Happy with the functionality overall. However some definite quality and manufacturing issues. First, when I took the main part of the carrier out of the box, one of the plastic covers on the side of the drop down mechanism fell off. Upon closer inspection, three small balls I screws hold it on, and one was missing with obvious marks where someone tried to install it at the factory in the wrong spot. Luckily I found the screw rolling around inside and managed to fix it. Second issue was that the screw they supplied to attached the grab handle is very weak. The head sheared off with very light force. I suppose the handle will still hold with the threaded rod still in place, but no removing the handle now without drilling it out or cutting it off.

Sturdy & Reliable

I purchased this Thule bike rack one year ago. I am absolutely delighted with it! It's strong and sturdy. I have never felt so confident that my mountain bike is held securely. When mounting my road bike (with skinny tires) on the Thule, I place a small towel around the front wheel so that it's not "floating" around inside its curved basket. Overall, this rack deserves a top recommendation.

Great except for lock

I like the rack for the most part, but ...it only took a cheap pair of bolt cutters and a few seconds for someone to cut the cable and steal my bike. And it costs quite a bit to replace the arm unit that has the integrated lock, so if you buy this, don't rely on that lock, it is useless.
