Description

Preparing for a bike trip can be more complicated than you'd think—at least the Thule Paceline Fork Mount Carrier lets you strap your bicycle to the roof of your car without a hassle. Thule made this carrier out of a lightweight aluminum that's resistant to corrosion, and it has an aerodynamic D-shaped profile to better withstand long travel. Universal mounting means you can attach this rack to most factory-supplied racks without tools. While the auto-clamp adjusts the pressure to different drop-out thicknesses for a secure hold, the ergonomic precision dial eliminates damage to the fork by preventing you from putting too much pressure on it. And the ratcheting wheel strap has a high-wall cradle that secures your bike's wheel to the tray so you don't end up getting to your destination without a bike.

Tried to put this rack on my dads car which has older Yakima rounds bars and while thule claims that this rack will work with round bars, it does not! The clamp is not big enough to fit all the way around the round bars. You have been warned! If you are looking for a rack that works great on round bars, check this one out:

    Loving it so far!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Easy to put together for the most part and holds my road bike on tight. I have a Thru axle adapter (this item: RMO0010 ) for the fork mount too to make this rack compatible with mountain bikes or cx bikes. Works great as expected for all Thule products!

    Looks nice but very failure-prone

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I had 3 of these Thule Paceline racks fail within about 12-18 months. The mechanism on the front end for securing the fork is way too complicated for what it does. There are no user-serviceable parts in the mechanism, so if anything fails you have to trash the entire unit (after making a warranty claim, if eligible). The front mechanism comprises opposing front/rear levers that cooperate to secure the rack to the roof rails and the bicycle fork to the rack. My first failure was the levers were mysteriously damaged and would no longer close. I replaced that one under warranty. That 2nd one failed a few months later when one of the 2 pins that pinch the fork snapped off driving down the freeway. I made a warranty claim on the 2nd one and applied it to a hitch rack instead. Meanwhile, a 3rd one I had purchased (I wanted to have 2 units for 2 bikes) failed much like the 1st - mysterious handle failure. At least one of the lever failures *might* have been caused by a single trip to the car wash. Yes, you probably *should* take it off every time you wash the car, and yes, that would technically make it my fault. BUT, a product like this, given all the possible loading scenarios it might encounter under normal use, should NOT be so fragile as to fail after one trip through the car wash. And the 2nd failure (pin snapping off one end) was definitely a design or manufacturing defect, and there is no replaceable part like a skewer that could be used to fix it. Bottom-line is, the *design* is nice, operates well in theory, and looks clean, but the execution is flawed.

    Simple installation

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Purchased this item for my dad - below is his review.
    ____________________________________________________________

First time user for a Thule Roof Rack. All my other racks were truck bed simple clamp type of mounts. Installation was easy and loading a bike was a snap. Forks mount centered on the rack axle and a quick press of the front clamping handle secures the bike in place. Centering the rear tire and securing was also simple. I also bought the lock cylinder which was easy to install and now my bikes are secure and safe.

    Solid fork mount tray

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Thule did a nice job designing this fork mount tray. The tension adjustment dial in the front has been much improved from previous models that I've owned. The back wheel strap easily accommodate my 2.4 rear tire with plenty of extra strap to spare. The lock core went in easily and the install is pretty straight forward. The steel construction feels really solid and it's very aerodynamic as well.
