Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Recently upgraded to an '08 Jeep Rubicon, love it... The problem was, however... No rack for my kayak!! I searched and searched for Jeep racks... $800... $1000... $1200?? I was scared... But then I came across these, these things are amazing, they latch onto the rain gutters tightly and don't take hardly any installation time (just don't drop the clamp on your toe while installing it, it hurts... ).
After the 20 minute installation time I now have a super durable and dependable rack that didn't break the bank. Thanks Thule, I knew I could count on you!
I noticed you have some extra clearance using the Super High Foot, would the High Foot still work on your Land Rover Discovery? I have a 2004 LR Disco II and would prefer the rack to sit just a little lower if the High Foot Will work?
I have a 1998 Land ROver Discovery and fitting a roof rack to it was very difficult. The yakima towers were too short and rubbed the sides. So I bought the Thule Super High Foot towers. These towers are tall enough to clear the domed roof and the factory rails. They fit very securely to the gutter. I have complete faith in these towers holding up. Installation was difficult with one person so I would reccommed this be a 2 person job. The towers have to be pulled away from the vehicle while tightening the feet down. Again this is hard to do by yourself and if you're not careful the bars will bow upwards if things aren't aligned properly when being tightened. Once in place though the gutter feet really hold. I can shake the whole vehicle with the towers.
Althouh probably not encouraged by Thule, I have seen vehicles utilizing 3 and even 4 sets of these gutter towers and crossrails. Assuming your gutters are up to the task I would think the weight limit for 3 sets of towers would be 247.5 and 4 sets of towers to be 330. Of course the load would need to be evenly distributed. Just a thought.
