Great Product

Been using Thomson for years....they make really nice, quality stuff. Sometimes lighter than carbon so compare when considering....

This is one of the few components you will simply “set and forget.” I’ve ridden my masterpiece on my hard tail for 10 years now. Every few years this bike gets a refresh, which has resulted in everything but this post, my trusty Hope brakes, and some bombproof I9 hubs being replaced, some a few times (frame broke, so it’s on #2 as well)

I’ve occasionally thought about carbon, but they are much heavier (even using their advertised weight vs my scale), and most of my comfort issues have worked out with saddle/tire choice/pressure changes and good bibs. I also like knowing this thing is solid as a rock!

    Thomson's bike products are actually just a side project. Their main focus is precision machining for aerospace, so if they make stuff that can defy gravity, they can make a seatpost.

    Unanswered Question

    What size/length would I need for a 2013 CAAD10? Have the stock C3 stem, 27.2 on there now. Frame is 52, I'm 5'10''. Thanks!

    Thomson is the state of the art in extruded aluminum - the quality and craftsmanship is top notch. This post is crazy stiff (not a negative) it provides great feedback in steering the bike. I went with the 330mm and it is the perfect length for me. Be careful in sizing the length if you are not vertically challenged like me. It's Thomson, what else it there to say?

    I have the Thomson Masterpiece on both of my frames and it is hands down the best seatpost I've ever used. Solid construction and functionally sound. Highly recommend!

    Rigid Perfection

    Lightweight - and so close to carbon weights without the creak or expense. Easy fore/aft adjustment. This very much falls in, if not defines, the set-it-and-forget-it category.

    I’m not aware of a carbon post lighter than the Masterpiece. If by close you mean lighter... sure!

    A True Masterpiece

    Thomson is my go to post if I'm staying ridgid. I have had this post on a number or road, mountain, and cyclocross bikes. I often prefer it over "better" carbon posts. It does its job without fail.

    The only conceivable advantage of a carbon fiber seatpost over the Thompson Masterpiece would be flex. In a 31.6mm, you wont get much beneficial flex from carbon anyway. Save the money and get the Thompson. It is lighter than most carbon posts and it is durable too.

    The fore/aft adjustment screws makes it super easy to adjust the saddle.

    Thompson makes a great product. Fact. This seatpost is awesome. It is an alloy post that is pretty light and every easy to adjust the angle of your saddle. I like the 350mm length because then I don't think I have any extra material. I love this post

    Thomson Masterpiece is the best alloy seatpost available hands down. Made in the good ol' USA, I had a Thomson Masterpiece on my full carbon road bike because the thing is so dang light that it saved several grams over some of the more popular carbon posts. One cool thing about Thomson is that they make this post in just about every conceivable seat post diameter. The machining on this post is first-rate, and it comes with a cool canvas carry bag... because you want, nay, need one.

      Every bike you own should have a Thomson post on it. The Masterpiece keeps all of the burliness of the classic Thomson post and shaves grams, because a lighter seatpost will make you faster right? There are lighter options but I've broken one of those mid-crit and tried to finish the race. I will say this: there are a few places where you should not aim a jagged piece of carbon fiber. After that experience, I've sworn off of the featherweight junk and onto Thomson. The fact that they've made a lightweight post is certainly a nice extra.

        Seriously, you can't beat this seatpost without paying another $200 for some boutique POS. True, it's not carbon so you don't get the look-factor but this is lighter (and much stronger and stiffer) than any of the other carbon posts I've used (FSA, Alpha Q, Specialized). There's absolutely no flex and the micro-adjust head is incredible when it comes to getting the saddle angle just perfect. Oh, and because we're always worried about weight, it came in at over 80 grams lighter than my FSA SLK-Light post
