Rutland Tire - Tubeless

When the road ahead is full of unknowns, toss on the Teravail Rutland Tubeless Tire and be ready for just about anything. It features large tightly spaced center lugs for exceptional grip, with ramping on the front side to keep rolling resistance at a minimum when. Transition lugs are spaced out to help boost mud shed when things get a little sloppy, and feature siping that allows the lugs to conform to terrain for grater traction in slower turns. Beefy side lugs are staggered to elevate your control when you're booking it into turns at high speed, and feature wide spacing ideal for control in the mud, and mudshed.

Teravail offers the Rutland in two different casings — the Durable Bead-to-Bead, and Light-and-Supple, aptly named for their riding characteristics. The Durable Bead-to-Bead casing offers protection from bead to bead, with robust woven nylon composite between the outer rubber and inner casing, within the sidewalls, as well as tread, preventing tears and abrasions in rough terrain. Additionally, a second tightly woven layer of protection is added under the tread to protect from punctures. Conversely, the Light and Supple offers the basics when puncture protection is less critical, with decreased weight, and an extra-supple feel at lower pressures, elevating comfort while you ride.

nice tire runs small in the frame

I switched out a Schwalbe G1 38mm rear tire for this tire in 38mm Durable Black. I was nervous because my Ridley X Trail Gravel Bike has a hard cut off at 38mm clearance. Shouldn't have been. This tire looks like a skinny road tire compared to the Schwalbe. Its a low volume tire apparently. Other than that, seems to be pretty well suited to all around riding. But the 38mm is a skinny tire for sure.

Came from g-one bites on my canyon grail, wanted tubeless and something with some better traction capabilities.. but was worried about not adding too much rolling resistance since most of my gravel rides locally will involve 50% paved riding to get the good stuff! Teravail rutlands did not disappoint! Grip like no tomorrow, eat up gravel, double track, comfortable on trails. Love taking them places where gravel bikes may not quite belong! Really noticed the added volume (went with 42mm) and compliant sidewalls, nicely plush on some of the heaviest rooted up trails. Sheds mud very nicely. And surprisingly rolls really well on pavement. I was willing to give up paved rolling speed for grip and cushion on trails, but these no doubt roll faster on pavement than my previous tires, surprisingly fast. Spent a lot of time looking at tread patterns, these are more aggressive than some other brands paved/gravel mixes that may have a completely flat centerline.. but these roll so well, and provide that grip, and cushion! Really great tires, and look pretty nice as well (Tan sidewalls for me!)

DO NOT BUY for tube setup

These tires WILL NOT go on with tubes. I've popped 2 tubes and broken 3 tire levers getting them on. Just not worth it.

Great Durable Tire

I’ve been quite happy with the Terravail gravel tires. This is my second set. Ran the earlier gravel version (cannonball if remember correctly). Ran it till I wore out the file tread. The Rutland is more aggressive and predictable in chunky mixed terrain. Great if you ride a lot of mixed terrain ranging from chunky washboard, fire roads, some singletrack, etc. I ran these (38mm rear 42mm front) at the Oregon Trail Gravel Grinder race. 350 miles of sand, washboards, sharp lava rock, powdery dust, and fast gravel. No flats at all! The tires took a beating though. Shortened lifespan with racing of course. Really happy with them. Will buy more.

I had a similar experience with these tires at the Lost and Found. I think they are wonderful. Curious what PSI you were running (front and back)?
