Ehline Tire

Blasting XC hot laps is best done at fast speed, and with minimal rolling resistance, and Teravail's Ehline Tires are built for exactly that. Race season is right around the corner, and getting your steed set up for speed is definitely a priority, so get your chain lubed, your cockpit dialed, and toss on some cross-country race ready tires like the Teravail Ehline 29in Tires. These wagon-wheel sized boots feature tightly spaced, short center lugs for grip while accelerating and braking, with ramping on the front side to reduce rolling resistance on fast, hard-packed dirt. Transition lugs are spaced out to shed mud in the event of a shower, while buttressed side lugs are staggered to offer control when you're braking under speed. Each different territory of tread features a unique style of siping to elevate grip. In the center, the tread features siping that's perpendicular to the direction of travel, which help with grip under acceleration, while the transition lugs offer horseshoe siping that allow the lugs to conform to the terrain and maintain traction while braking. The outermost lugs use siping parallel to tire, increasing grip when cornering. Combined, you'll find quick rolling, powerful braking, and controlled traction on hard-packed XC trails.

Teravail offers the Ehline in two different casings — the Durable Bead-to-Bead, and Light-and-Supple, aptly named for their riding characteristics. The Durable Bead-to-Bead casing offers protection from throughout the whole tire, with robust woven polymer composite between the outer rubber and inner casing, within the sidewalls, as well as tread, preventing tears and abrasions in rough terrain. Additionally, a second tightly woven layer of protection is added under the tread to protect from punctures. Conversely, the Light and Supple offers the basics when puncture protection is less critical, with decreased weight, and an extra-supple feel at lower pressures, elevating comfort while you ride.

Digging these Teravail Ehline Tires 29

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I needed a fast rolling tire for riding mostly rocky hard pack trails with some loose rocks. I have been riding Maxxis DHF/DHR on my Niner Rip 9. I found these and look at some reviews. I put the 29"x2.5" on tubeless and loved them for my riding tail conditions. They are fast rolling and side knobs are large enough to handle good in turns and through technical rock sections. I got the durable since I get a lot of sidewall cuts. I am really enjoying these wheels front and back.

Made a difference on my bike

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I had been running Maxxis Ardent Races and Ikons on my XC bike for two sets of tires (both 2.2"), and wanted to try something a little meatier, so I rolled the dice with these Ehlines (both front and rear). I put a 2.5" in the front and a 2.3" in the rear, both are the Light and Supple model. They mounted easily on my DT Swiss X1700 rims. I used Stans sealant, and the rear doesn't seem to be losing air at all, on the front, the air loss is normal (1-3 psi a week?). The front tire measures 2.38" wide and the rear is 2.2" wide on my rims (22.5mm i.w.) after about six weeks at ~22psi. Teravail says the ideal rim internal width for these tires is 25mm, but the tire shape is fine on my 22.5mm rims. So they're materially narrower than stated on my rims, and I think they'd run narrow on 25mm i.w. rims as well. I've done ~20 rides on these tires so far on varied terrain. I put 22psi in the front and 24psi on the rear, and these tires have made a big difference on my bike. Yes, they are slightly higher volume than the Maxxis tires they replace, but these Ehlines feel more supple, and there was a very noticeable improvement in the overall suspension effect on the bike. The biggest difference is how much more confident I am in rougher terrain, and the bike sticks to the trail better in corners than the Ardent/Ikons. The tires grip better in rooty/rocky technical terrain, too. Yes, this comes with a small weight penalty, and maybe a small rolling disadvantage compared to the small block Maxxis tires, but I only race a handful of times a year, the rest of the time I do long XC style trail, so this tradeoff works for me. Assuming these tires hold up well, I plan to stick with this brand/model long term.
