Suunto 9 Baro with Heart Rate Belt

Taking it to the next level in your training means not only adding the Suunto 9 Baro to your list of gear, but also the matching Heart Rate Belt that provides a more accurate reading. This system features an excellent battery life, assisted by the capability to remind you to charge or switch modes based on your activity. With three distinct battery modes, you can be reassured of long lasting performance when you head out on the trail. You've got 25 hours of battery life with Performance mode, 40 with Endurance, and up to 120 hours with Ultra mode—so really you should be able to make it through anything with plenty of power. One of the biggest problems between ultra athletes and GPS watches is battery life. On longer runs, GPS frequency is often reduced in order to preserve battery life, which may lead to a less accurate reading, especially on technical trails and tight switchbacks. Suunto's response to this problem is their FusedTrack algorithm. FusedTrack fills in the gaps of waning GPS signals with motion sensor data, ensuring both a more accurate reading and a prolonged battery life, so you can feel comfortable heading out for hours at a time. A FusedAlti altitude tracker works similarly to FusedTrack, combining GPS and barometric altitude for a more accurate reading. Using that technology, the Suunto 9 Baro gives you weather readings and storm warnings, and also features speed tracking, plenty of log storage, and over 80 sport modes to help you monitor work outs regardless of the conditions. The Smart Sensor heart monitor works with the included belt to provide heart rate readings, and the belt method ensures a more accurate reading than a wrist watch estimate. A sapphire crystal face and a silicone strap provide durability and comfort for the long haul, and the watch and heart rate monitor are rated to 100m of water resistance so you can track your swims as well as your on-land activities.

    Capabilities don't match the cost

I spent a long time determining what I wanted for a fitness trainer. I landed on this one but thinking I made a big mistake. The display isn't anywhere near as bright as the pictures show. Even at the setting of 100% it is really dim. When you pause your activity is when you would think you'd be able to quickly review all your stats to make sure you're on track but you can only scroll through very limited data. You would think that in swimming it could count your laps but its so touchy it's not accurate at all. They have a bunch of different fitness activities. You would think it would have elliptical as one of fitness programs you could track, after all they have things like yoga, sailing , cheerleading and golf but no elliptical.
