Like that all-important summer between middle and high school, the changes that Stan's NoTubes made to the Flow wheelset between last year and this one are responsible for writing an entirely different future for this wheelset. Shedding its image of a burlier XC rim beloved by riders concerned with durability, the Stan's NoTubes Flow MK3 2.75in Wheelset has become an entirely different beast. Wider than ever and now spinning on Stan's new Neo hubs, the Flow MK3 comes with the same Stan's reliability that's earned the Upstate New York-based brand its loyal following, with an updated design that's given it a broader range of use on the trails.
To adapt the MK3's to life on fast descents and harsh lines, Stan's first widened the internal rim width to 29mm, almost a full 4mm wider than on previous versions. Rather than arbitrarily adopting this number based on the industry's ever-widening rim trend, Stan's did its own research, using its WideRight design to create a rim shape that would allow you to use your tire as it was intended. Pioneered on earlier versions of the Flow rims, WideRight ensures the MK3 doesn't distort tires, giving you full access to your tread pattern and side knobs while positioning the tire to protect the rim from damage. Stan's trusted Bead Socket Technology pairs expertly with the WideRight rim design, creating a pocket in which your tire's bead rests for a seamless and incredibly dependable tubeless seal. Like WideRight, BST also aims to let your tire inhabit its natural shape, improving traction and lowering rolling resistance compared to less effective designs that rely on retaining a tire via its sidewalls.
While shaping was arguably the biggest change the Flow MK3 saw this year, Stan's knew that addressing strength and weight would be important if the MK3 was to be depended upon by enduro and trail riders. Anticipating bigger hits and less predictability, Stan's used a newer 6069 aluminum alloy to shape the rim, which according to the company, helped make the rim 25% stiffer and stronger than before without adding weight.
Once you're actually out on the trails, you'll be able to appreciate the CNC-machined precision of Stan's appropriately-named Neo hubs as you approach the crux of a climb, vision blurred, and find the hubs eagerly snapping to attention courtesy of their four-pawled design, with its 36 points of contact and 10 degrees of engagement. For extra reassurance, Stan's filled the hubs with oversized bearings and a wide stance for extra bump-smashing durability. Finally, 32 Sapim Force Black spokes join said hubs to the rest of the rim, and the wheelset comes pre-taped to simplify your tubeless setup process.

bomber wheels for a great price
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I have been on these for a month or so now and have been in love. the wider lighter flow wheels are stiffer and more responsive than ever, and they did it all with keeping the same price point as the old wheelsets.
