Raising the bar.
You've pushed your nimble XC frame around plenty of tight corners and down lines it had no business going anywhere near, so it should come as no surprise that the set of stock hoops that came with it are reaching the end of their lifespan. Fortunately the existence of Stan's NoTubes means you can upgrade to a more rugged set of wheels without cleaning out your savings account. The incredibly durable wheels that Upstate New York-based Stan's NoTubes lovingly produces are beloved throughout the Competitive Cyclist office and far beyond, and the Crest MK3 27.5in Wheelset stands poised to live up to the workhorse reputation Stan's has established for itself.
To update the Crest MK3 this year, Stan's switched to an 6069 aluminum alloy construction, which it used across its MK3 line to shave weight while adding lateral stiffness. Stan's was able to use less material to make a stronger rim, and when combined with the added 2mm of internal width, the Crest's MK3's ability to adapt to the blurring lines of the XC discipline shouldn't be in question. They'll be at home on smooth singletrack courses, but unafraid when you point them towards bigger bumps and less predictability.
The trend of widening rims is nothing new, but Stan's refused to just jump on the bandwagon. Instead, it trusted its proven WideRight design process to ensure it didn't widen the rim to the extent that it became detrimental to tire positioning. WideRight allows the tire to embody the shape that it functions best at, rather than becoming distorted for the sake of a wider rim measurement, achieving ideal traction, grip, and far less likelihood of pinch flats throughout your ride.
Along with WideRight, Stan's also trusted its Bead Seal Technology (BST) to develop a perch atop which 2.0-2.5in tires can sit comfortably and effectively on the Crest MK3's, ensuring the sidewalls don't become pinched and that you're able to use the tread pattern to its full extent when leaning into a tight corner. While you're enjoying the rims' bombproof tubeless interface, the Crest MK3's will spin reassuringly on Stan's new, and appropriately named, Neo hubs. Boasting a CNC-machined aluminum construction and a four-pawl design, the hubs were built with 36 points of contact along 10 degrees of engagement. Whether you're out on a weekend ride or toeing up to the start line of a summer race, the hubs will jump to engage when you need to accelerate out of the dirt.

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
These wheels are great. Great wheels for the price and really light for an aluminum wheel. The new rim design has stiffened up the wheel and made them stronger when bombing down descents. They are really easy to setup tubeless. Great hubs laced to some great rims.
