Sentry S1 27.5in Boost Wheel

It's no secret the industry is ever-evolving, pushing wheel and tire standards wider in the relentless quest for the perfect balance of rolling speed, traction, and bump compliance on the trail. Not to be late to the party, Stan's No Tubes creates the Sentry S1 27.5in Boost Wheel for wide volume trail tires and plus-sized behemoths currently sweeping the mountain bike world. Built with a stout internal width of 32 millimeters, the Sentry S1 caters to mountain bike tires in the range of 2.5 to 3.0 inches. Stan's calls this pairing of rim widths and tire sizes "WideRight," making for a secure and solid riding platform without deforming wider tires into an overly bulbous shape.

Not only is the Sentry S1 intended for the higher volume rubber prevalent on modern trail bikes, but it's also designed with their proprietary Bead Socket Technology (BST), which is a fancy way of saying the rim attaches to the bead of the tire, instead of merely pushing it down farther into the sidewall. Because of this BST, you'll find it's increasingly air-tight and free of burping in tubeless set-up. Just as importantly, this technology decreases the tire's vulnerability to slashes by running it in a truer, rounder shape without pushing the sidewall outwards where it's susceptible to damage.

This particular Sentry S1 Wheel works for both 27.5-inch and 27.5+ trail bikes across a wide variety of trail ecosystems, from the flowing forest loops of Appalachia to the high-elevation mesas of Utah. BOOST spacing creates a stiffer, stronger wheel, thanks in part to the better spoke bracing angle afforded by its wider hub spacing. 6061 alloy construction maintains high levels of strength without taking a significant hit to your wallet like fancier carbon hoops. They're laced to Stan's Neo hubs equipped with a reliable 6-pawl system with a 10-degree engagement, which is more responsive than many wheels in this price category.
