Description

Rim Tape

Stan's NoTubes Yellow Rim Tape has become the standard for achieving a proper seal when converting "normal" rims to tubeless. And by normal, we mean non-UST rims with spoke holes that pierce the outer wall of the rim. What's the big deal with Stan's Yellow Rim Tape you ask? Well, we don't know how it does what it does, but it makes the magic happen. When applied correctly, it provides a durable, long lasting seal.

  • Achieve a proper seal with this handy rim tape
  • Ideal for converting non-UST rims to tubeless
  • Protects rim holes from filling up with sealant
  • 10-yard roll has plenty of tape for dialing in your hoops

Good tape

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Fit:
True to size

Converted my wheels to tubeless. Installation was easy and it works good. Highly recommend

Trash

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Gorilla tape works so much better. I would advise buying this use it on one tire use gorilla tape on the other then take this off and gorilla tape that tire and then throw this role of tape on the trash. Just to experience how much worse this product is compared to gorilla tape. It still amazes me this is even a thing.

Almost Newbie Proof

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've had my tubeless road wheelset for some time but was afraid to take the plunge until now. I was able to tape one wheel on the first try without any issues. The second took 2 attempts. My wheels have held their initial pressure, but the tape took alot of rubbing and coaxing. I watched at my LBS, and picked up some tips.

Good Tape

Make sure you clean your wheel real good before application. Perfect amount of tape for two 27.5" wheels.

The Best

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've used other brands, but nothing stays in place yet is easily removable for accessing internal nipples with no mess. Get your tubeless setup done right with the proper tool for the job.

Always works.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Does what its supposed to. Just make sure you go 1-2mm wider than your internal width to cover the radius. Also, be aware that it's easy to cut this tape with tire levers.

Adequate for the job

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've never been a huge fan of Stan's rim tape but it does the job. It just feels flimsy with poor adhesive when you install, but I would say it holds up decently well. I've had the occasional issue with the tape sealing but for the most part, 'satisfactory' is the average experience. Designed to be light which is a plus.

Preparation is key

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Great tape, however it as many have said preparation of the rim itself is key. You'll know in the first few inches if you cleaned the wheel properly. I'll use alcohol first then a good quality brake cleaner and if that doesn't work I will scuff it with a really really fine sandpaper then clean again with brake clean. i have yet to have this method fail. Good luck

Perfect

I've used it several times

Great tape for a HED Trispoke.

Dependable

WW Tip: Only put tape over the spoke holes. Your friends will laugh at you and everyone think you're crazy, but you save about 8g a wheel!

Never Not Tubeless.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This tape works well on Stan's on any other tubeless ready rims. I went with the 21mm width and it should be good to go on road, CX, and XC tubeless rims. I would recommend cleaning the rims well with alcohol and running two rounds of tape.

The Joys and Frustrations of Tubeless

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is solid tape. I've used it many a time and it seals well. Care in application is important - make sure the rim is clean and dry, make sure it goes bead to bead, use a couple layers. I've had it move around on me when pulling the tire off the rim which is frustrating, but I haven't found a stickier option yet and it doesn't leave residue like Gorilla Tape.

Stan's is a great choice for setting up your rims tubeless. Their tape simply works.

Stan's Gets the Job Done

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Worked well for getting my road tubeless setup going. Definitely clean the surface and tension the tape as others have mentioned, otherwise, you'll need to re-apply (did this once). Once you get it on correctly it works well though.

Get a bonding surface FIRST....if ya can

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This was my first experience with Stans Tape / Sealant. I had great luck on my 2013 Bontrager Mustang and son's 2017 Mustang rims.........but ran into some trouble on wifes 2017 Mustang rims off Superfly. They seem to have "lubed" the tires on which seemed clear when they easily "slipped off" in comparison to the other tires I was changing out. However, the wheel being absolutely smooth and perfect along with this mystery lube made it virtually impossible to get the Stans tape to stick. ~I used the clean it with alcohol method 1st....no go. ~Tried tire/wheel cleaner for my car which I wouldn't even put on my chain/cassette 2nd.....no go. Then some old Fantastic before sanding the inside of rim giving tape something to bond to before using alcohol once more. (hope rim doesn't corrode now) Well, it kind of stuck.......So I held it down with major tension and made my way around the wheel exhausted....before going around a 2nd time just-in-case. Added the Stan's sealant and we've been good after several rides now!!! Why did I just drone on and on?!?!..............wanted people to know that while I would have posted reviews like the others that you see above after the 1st two sets of wheels I replaced........it was the 3rd set that gives me pause to find something that will both Clean/Etch the rim before I reapply tape to her rims again. Therefore, don't wait till an hr before a planned ride to do this like I did!! But, being a "smart husband", I wanted to make sure nothing goes wrong on my wife's bike! ;-) fingers crossed. Hey "Stan,"..........Perhaps you can get with these Bontrager folks and come up with a rim cleaner ;-) Thus, I'd give the product 5 stars for 2 out of the 3 rims I set up that day...........but need to bring attention to folks running the new 2017 Mustang wheels.

Tension it and double up

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Like Jason says below (and he knows his stuff), tension the tape, make sure you get a good bond (pre-clean, like Jonathan mentions) and do 2 rounds. This all becomes even more important when you're setting up a gravel or road (*don't do it*) wheelset.

>Rating: 5

Go to Tape

Don't mess with other brands, this goes on smoothly with little issue. Just make sure you're tensioning the tape as you put it on.

>Rating: 5

This Stan guy is a genius

There's enough tape in a roll to seal several wheels which means now I'll have lots of extra tubes to make a variety of belts and wallets to sell on Esty.

>Rating: 5

need for tubeless

if you run tubeless this tape is a must. works so well with all the other stans products. There is a reason why stans is the gold standard with tubeless and its because their products work so well

>Rating: 5

Do it right

Pro Tip: work clean. Strip all old tape and funk off wheel. Get the right width. You can put the wheel back in the frame while you install tape to get good tension on it.
