Carbon MTB GXP L Gen 3 Power Meter Crank Arm

Power meters aren't just for the roadies any more and more and more mountain bikers are wanting a piece of the action during their training and racing efforts to analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Cross-country and enduro racing require specific demands and training and racing with this powerful data available can bring large gains in training and pay dividends on race day. The fine folks at Stages Cycling wants to make sure everyone who wants this data has access to it and therefore brings out the Carbon MTB GXP L Gen 3 Power Meter Crank Arm to quantify and relay a host of insightful metrics to help you stay on your game come race day as well as monitoring your efforts on training days. Replacing just the non-drive crank arm allows it to be one of the more affordable power meters on the market and it leaves some funds available for race-day fees and travel expenses.

The power meter itself is safely tucked away in a low-profile pod on the inside of the non-drive side arm, preventing it from getting bashed on trail furniture. It's compatible with SRAM GXP bottom brackets and cranks with Q-factors of 168 millimeters. Stage's carbon construction makes it very lightweight and super stiff, so you give up nothing in replacing the stock SRAM arm. Perhaps most surprisingly, the meter itself only adds 15 grams to the base of the crank arm. If you can detect that difference in your bike's weight, you're way more tuned in most. And if you're concerned with water intrusion, rest assured as the unit boasts an IPX7 water resistance rating.

The meter calculates wattage using crank arm flexion and cadence with an impressive +/- 1.5% accuracy which is in line or slightly better than industry standards. Stages adds Active Temperature Compensation to the mix to prevent skewed readings when conditions widely fluctuate on the trail, so its spot on at the trailhead and at the summit of the highest point of the day. To simplify things, an accelerometer-based cadence measurement means it doesn't require additional sensors to read crank RPM. Updated Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ radios send a 6-time stronger signal to your head unit as well as allowing you to wirelessly sync with your favorite cycling apps, so you won't have to deal with pesky cables while uploading data. For even greater analysis and control, Stages Cycling developed an app that identifies and updates the firmware, zero resets the meter, provides quick read-outs of power output, and checks remaining battery life.
